FiiO - EX1 (2nd Gen)

DESIGN: RHA MA600 vs FiiO EX1 (2nd Gen)

RHA has evidently triumphed the world of headphones with its astounding quality in-ears. The premium brand has made a name for itself worldwide as the 'Aston Martin of Headphones', for their tremendous attention to detail, use of premium materials and their trademark 'Aerophonic Design' that delivers true-to-life audio. RHA has repeatedly come to offer budget earpieces, without compromising on the quality.

The MA600, from the house of RHA, comes with an exceptional build quality. The earpieces are engineered from highly durable aircraft grade aluminium that is handmade by RHA. We love the sleek looking body that is lightweight yet stylish.

Like always, RHA has ensured brand recognition, with subtlety. RHA's logo is imprinted on the back of each earpiece. However, an RHA fanatic will be quick to recognize these in-ears from the brand.

As for the cables, the MA600 features a dual-insulated cable that reduces cable sound and transmits more detailed sound. The cord has been wrapped with a thick plastic sheath. They are tangle- free and are extremely tough and durable. The contoured over-ear cable lets you wear your earphone in a traditional as well as over-the-ear fashion.

The RHA MA600 comes with RHA's astounding 3-year warranty!

FiiO, the Chinese audio brand has come to be well renowned among most audiophiles for its quality audio products and accessories. The FiiO EX1 was launched and became very popular, receiving high critical acclaim from audiophiles in no time. Riding on the wave of its predecessor, the brand now proudly presents to us the FiiO EX1 (2nd Gen).

The EX1 (2nd Gen) flaunts a stylish metal body, with anodized duralumin for the back half, and stainless steel for the front half. This makes the body durable, and it seems like these in-ears can take some amount of abuse. The earphones look very premium and well built, you can proudly sport them to make a statement.

Just like the RHA MA600, FiiO's logo has been imprinted on the back of the earpieces. The vents on the earpieces go on to prove that FiiO has put in much effort while designing these in-ears.

Coming to the cable, it comprises of 42 strands of high purity OFC copper intertwined with 250D fiber strands ensuring that the cables last long and transmit the most sonic sound. To put it simply, the feature lends some serious strength to the build of this product. The outer coating is made of medical grade TPE to reduce cable microphonics and apparently minimizes skin allergies. However, the cable sometimes feels slimy, causing it to be a bit of a turn-off.

The FiiO EX1 (2nd Gen) comes with a 1-year warranty.

The trademark Aerophonic™ Design, with its most efficient tailor-made shape, fits your ear canals perfectly, producing a true-to-life music experience.

Noise isolation is something that the M600 effortlessly attenuates. Adding to this, an entire set of 8 silicon ear tips is included in the package. This gives you endless options to choose from, for the most perfectly customized fit.

A negative in the MA600 is the absent remote and microphone. This makes music control and answering calls a task. However, if this feature is something that you are importantly seeking, then the RHA MA600i is a worthy update.

The included stylish hard carry case ensures safe portability and storage.

The FiiO EX1 (2nd Gen) not just looks good but feels good too. For comfort during long listening sessions, the in-ears feature an offset nozzle design ensuring that you do not suffer from ear fatigue. Lending a comfortable music listening experience is important, something most audio brands do not lay much emphasis. Fiio scores brownie points for this.

Improving on the FiiO EX1's design, the EX1 (2nd Gen) now comes with a 3-button remote and microphone making music control and answering very convenient. You can also control the volume, and skip music tracks, without having to fetch your phone every little while.

The package also comes with different sized ear tips that enable you to choose the most perfect and secure fit.

The FiiO X1 (2nd Gen) comes with a One year warranty.

SOUND: RHA MA600 vs FiiO EX1

The RHA MA600 produces a superbly precise balanced sound with its 320.1 custom made drivers that perfectly blends with the aluminium housing. The bass is not overpowering, letting the mids and highs stand out with detail and clarity.

As for the soundstage, it is pretty wide and spacious. The in-ears have a very good sense of space and deliver with oodles of power. The airiness and reasonable instrument placement is commendable.

When it comes to the sound, the EX1 (2nd Gen) housesNanotech Titanium Diaphragm Drivers that is supposed to deliver even power across all frequencies.

The bass is punchy, while the mids are smooth but do sound recessed at intervals. Deep and tight, the lows are sure to blow your mind away. The highs are sharp but may not appeal to every ear. Vocals are not as forward as you may like, but pretty decent at this price point.

The stereo imaging is impressively wide. The FiiO EX1 (2nd Gen) is more superior than most earphones in this price range.
Noise isolation is something that the EX1 (2nd Gen) miserably fails at. We do wish FiiO had paid more heed to this aspect.

Overall, the FiiO EX1 (2nd Gen) provides a natural yet fun and energetic sound.
