Jaybird Brand History

Fed up with heavy headsets and uncomfortable earphones that constantly popped out during his workouts, Judd Armstrong set out to make a change. Armstrong founded Jaybird in 2006 in order to create wireless in-ears that would stay in place during even the most seaty and rigorous workouts. Despite facing some tough competition from industry giants such as Motorola, LG, and Sony that dominated retail shelves and had multimillion-dollar marketing budgets, Jaybird managed to come out on top.

Jaybird had only one product and much less money to spend. But what they did have is a firm grasp on the needs of sports enthusiasts, and a plan to cater to it.

The list of things those with an active lifestyle want from their headphones is fairly obvious: primarily, great energetic sound and a secure fit. When Armstrong and his team were designing their first product, they went a step further. If fitness buffs were going to be their target audience, then their earbuds better stand getting drenched in sweat without suddenly dying on them.

So, Jaybird engineered products with technology that repelled sweat, allowing the company to give out a lifetime guarantee against sweat damage. "We were the first to do this, and it’s been a huge selling point," says Armstrong.

And that has truly worked. Jaybird is now the 3rd highest selling Premium Headphone brand in the US, with its Bluebuds X & X2 lauded as 'Perfection in Wireless Sound' and becoming the most preferred Bluetooth Sports Earphone brand in the world.

Jaybird has since then diversified into the sport wearable category, with its Reign Fitness Band designed to perfectly complement its earphones.
