Jabra was founded in Utah in 1983 by American entrepreneur Woody Norris and was originally namedNorcom Electronics Corporation. From its inception, Norcom was engaged in the development of ear-radio and ear-microphone technologies.
It 1984, Norcom was bought by American Technology Corporation, another company who owed its roots to Norris. Norcom stayed under ATC till 1988. Thereafter, ATC sold it to Norris Communications (now e.Digital Corporation), which then sold it off to former Norris Communications employees, Randy Granovetter and Brean Murray who then founded Jabra Corporation on January 3, 1993.
Under Granovetter & Murray, Jabra developed the first in-ear integrated microphone and speaker, invented and patented its EarGels ©, developed DSP based echo and noise cancellation technologies, became the first company to tune a headset over-the-air, and created the market segment category for mobile headsets with its Motorola StarTac product.
In 1996 Jabra marked its foray into Bluetooth technology through its acquired operations in Scotland.
In 2000, Jabra became the Jabra we know of today when it was taken over by GN Netcom, a division of the Danish company GN Great Nordic, the latter having been founded in 1869 as the Great Northern Telegraph Company.
With over 140 years of experience in designing state-of-the-art communications solutions, GN Store Nord gave Jabra an outstanding foundation of technical expertise, upon which they continued to build the Jabra name.
In 2006, GN Netcom consolidated its Contact Center and Office (CC&O) headset division under the Jabra brand. In 2009, GN headsets began being marketed globally under the Jabra brand. By uniting all headset operations under one brand, Jabra worked to reinforce its position as a world-leading headset supplier by facilitating a greater focus on business to business and consumer markets respectively.
Since then, Jabra & GN Netcom have generated more than 2 billion DKK, a far cry from the DKK 100 million revenue the company had in 1987.
Jabra has also received numerous product and design awards, including the CES Innovation, the iF product design award, a Red Dot Mobile Choice Best Accessory, the T3 Gold award and CNET Editor’s Choice; to name a few.
However, Jabra doesn't take these accolades as just recognition for hard work. They take it is a challenge-a challenge to continually innovate and create designs that meet the needs of their customers in unexpected and liberating ways.
