We interacted with Ms. Lyndsey Gibson, Head of Business Development at RHA to discuss with her the successful launch of their flagship T10i In-ears in India. Here's what she had to say in answer to our questions.

1. We're familiar with RHA's Mobile Compatible earphones starting with the MA750i and the MA600i. How does the T10i differentiate itself, and how does it fit with the rest of RHA's product range?
The T10i is an entirely new product and the first entry into a new series of products from RHA. While the MA Series share certain features including our unique Aerophonic shape, the T10i departs from the series, introducing new materials, production methods and technologies. The T10i is RHA’s new flagship, sitting at the top of our current range of IEMs due to its overall quality and the range of innovative technologies featured in the product.

2. How does RHA view the Global Demand for High-End In-Ears among consumers such as the new T10i and is there a future roadmap for similar products?
True-to-life audio is one of the key principles behind RHA product development and we’re of the opinion that the increasing demand for high quality, high fidelity headphones is absolutely a good thing. We have found that customers are definitely taking more time, and have more interest, in getting educated about high end audio. While the T10i is our consumer flagship, it does draw inspiration and technologies from a range of specialist products that RHA have been developing over the past few years. Hopefully, as the demand for high-end, high fidelity in-ear headphones grows, so will the RHA product range to satisfy the demand.

3. How would you describe the typical user of the RHA T10i?
The T10i is positioned to appeal to a wide range of users, from diehard audiophiles to casual listeners. The product could be seen as a gateway for those looking to venture into high-fidelity audio as it doesn’t require additional technologies or expensive partner products to be enjoyed; it is optimised for use with Apple devices and sounds great simply plugged into an iPhone. At the same time, those who want to pick up the T10i for use with external DAC/Amps or high-end DAPs will be equally satisfied by the product’s overall quality.

4. What is the design inspiration behind the T10i?
The design and product development teams worked hard on the T10i to achieve a shape that is beautifully ergonomic and natural. The contoured, stainless steel housing draws on the natural curvature of the ear to offer a highly comfortable fit.

5. With regards to the tuning filter, how does it work and how would an audiophile gain the best user experience from it?
The tuning filter system is a simple way of adjusting the headphone’s frequency response to place more or less emphasis on the bass or treble tones. The filters aren’t designed to offer a drastic shift in tone, but to add a little more excitement to certain genres of music, to bring out a bit more of the natural tonality in certain tracks and it’s definitely effective in doing so. We had reports that the treble filter is perfect for string-heavy orchestral pieces while the bass filter obviously works well with music genres with robust basslines such as hiphop.

6. Would you describe the T10i as an IEM?
The T10i can be described as an in-ear headphone or an IEM as the headphone features soft silicone and memory foam ‘ear tips’ which are designed for insertion into the ear canals.

7. Public forum opinion is of the sound being relatively warm and thus conducive for amplification. Do you agree?
Both the T10i and T10 variant will respond well to external amplifiers of DAC/Amp combos, but the tuning filter system and smartphone optimisation mean that even for those who don’t have any additional equipment will be able to bring out the best in their music using the T10i.

8. How does the injection moulding process make a difference to the soundstage?
Metal injection moulding is a pioneering process in consumer in-ear headphones. The process allows us not only to create the beautifully ergonomic shape of the driver housings, but it also allows us to optimise the headphone’s airflow properties to ensure the handmade dynamic driver is able to perform to the absolute best of its ability.

9. Being High-End In-Ears, these come with an Apple compatible mic. How does this affect your target audience and why?
The T10i is positioned to appeal to a wide range of users, from diehard audiophiles to casual listeners. The product could be seen as a gateway for those looking to venture into high-fidelity audio as it doesn’t require additional technologies or expensive partner products to be enjoyed; it is optimised for use with Apple devices and sounds great simply plugged into an iPhone. At the same time, those who want to pick up the T10i for use with external DAC/Amps or high-end DAPs will be equally satisfied by the product’s overall quality.

10. What new launches can we look forward to in the near future?
RHA has an exciting range of products lined up for release in 2015 and beyond as we continue to bring innovation in build, materials and technology to the personal audio market. We can’t say more at the moment, but keep an eye on the RHA website for all the latest news on forthcoming releases.

The RHA T10i is available at Headphone Zone at Rs.14,999.
