With the exponential growth of EDM music in India, DJ-ing has now become a lucrative career option for people.

Telling your parents that you want to become a DJ for life isn't met with the same amount of ' DJ, what the hell is a DJ?! Meri naak kata ke rakhega! Chal padhai kar!' as it did about 10 years ago.

However, the profession is still a male-dominated and like other occupations in India, women tend to lag behind in number, fame, money and opportunity.

Nonetheless, these female DJs have broken barriers, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with their male counterparts, belting out tracks and bringing the house down all over the country.

DJ Paroma

Watching her brother listen to Michael Jackson and Madonna gave Paroma an idea as to what music was and she kicked it to high gear by taking up DJing. Helping her build towards that dream was her job being a flight attendant as she visited many clubs across the globe and got a music sense of different cultures. Her strengths are club house, hip hop, deep and tech house and she learned under the best - DJ Bob Omulo. Her happiness comes from watching the audience scream for more when she plays.

DJ Shireen

One moment you see her chilling with the crowd and you might mistake her for a college student, but the fact is that Shireen Aida Khan is one of India’s most loved and revered figures in the DJing Industry, and also one of the Best. Starting out as India’s youngest female DJ, back in 2005 ; Shireen soon shot up the popularity charts thanks to her electrifying presence behind the console. Not one to be afraid of experimenting, Shireen has gained an impeccable repute for absolutely rocking the crowd with her signature style of music one night after another, one place after another, within the country and within most countries abroad.

DJ Gouri

Swaying all the way from the dance floor to the turntables, DJ Gouri has managed to keep up the oomph factor all the way! Spinning tunes all the way from psychedelic to hip hop, electro to commercial house, she has taken the world of DJing by storm. Her music is classy, chic and gets people on the dance floor to move their body all night long. She has a unique style of mixing tunes according to the mood of the event, which leaves no one complaining and her good looks are a bonus point.

DJ Pearl

Hailing from Goa, a child of music lovers, this DJ knew that she'd end up on the music scene. She is also known for pioneering house music in India and launching one of India's best EDM parties; 'Submerge', along with with her famous DJ husband Nikhil Chinapa and friend Hermit Sethi.

So all you EDM lovers, bow down to this phenomenal lady and inspiration to many.

DJ Maa Faiza

She's no ordinary DJ! The Queen of Electronic Dance Music, DJ Ma Faiza, who has settled in Pune, will arrest you with her fat grooves, fun styling and euphoric beats. Having been on the scene when Electronic Dance Music (EDM) was just kicking off in the UK, she has a deep understanding of the complex nuances of this genre and its evolution, which flows into how she DJs and the tracks she picks to showcase in my sets.

She not only inspires a lot of budding DJs to take up their careers seriously but also fights for woman to fight for their identity and choose to look the way they want.
