It’s that time of the year again, when Mahindra puts together its mind-blowing, two-day Blues festival. The previous editions of the Mahindra Blues Festival brought to India some of the most iconic International acts. Artists like Taj Mahal, Walter Trout, Tedeschi Trucks band, John Lee Hooker Jr and India’s legendary blues bands including Soulmate and Blackstratblues were a treat to every Blues fan. This year celebrates the 5th Edition of the Festival making it bigger, better and bluer. So if you’re a true Blues fan then this festival is an experience you don’t want to miss!
The line-up for this year includes
Six-time Grammy Award Winner Buddy Guy with Quinn Sullivan
George "Buddy" Guy is an American blues guitarist and singer. At the age of seven, Buddy Guy built his own guitar and started studying the instrument. With his work between 1960s and 1980s, he influenced legends like Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughan etc. Guy continues to work with contemporary artists including Carlos Santana, John Mayer an dmany others. In 2005, Guy was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Quinn Sullivan is an American singer and guitarist who started playing the guitar at the age of three. Only 15, he is one of the most respected Blue guitarists in the world today. He has played on-stage with musicians like Eric Clapton, BB King, and has also performed at some of the most prestigious music festivals. In 2011, he released his debut album “Cyclone,” which was rated No 7 on the Billboard blues album chart.
This is going to be Quinn Sullivan’s premier show in India alongside his mentor Buddy Guy. These two legendary guitarists performing together is going to be the highlight of this event.

Doyle Bramhall II with Rich Robinson of the Black Crowes
Doyle Bramhall II was raised in a home filled with blues and rock and roll. His father, Doyle Bramhall Senior was a drummer and a regular collaborator with artists like Stevie Ray Vaughan. After the release of Doyle Bramhall II’s music album ‘Jellycream’, he was approached by Roger Waters and Eric Clapton to tour with them. Thus began Doyle’s journey to being one of the most successful session guitarists in America.
Doyle was part of The Mahindra Blues Festival last year where he played with the Tedeschi Trucks. He didn’t just blow minds away with his exceptional guitaring but also stole a few hearts with his brilliant stage presence. He collaborates with Rich Robinson for an incredible setlist this year.
Rich Robinson is the founding member of the rock and roll band ‘The Black Crowes’. After their split, Rich Robinson went his own way and returned to the blues. His solo album ‘The Ceaseless Sight‘ received great reviews and launched him as a successful independent guitarist.
They take stage on February 14 (Day 1), at 10:00 PMat Venue 3.
Nikki Hill is a 27 year old singer/songwriter who has created a buzz with her unique blend of root, soul and blues music. Her journey began when she started singing for gospel choirs at her church when she was a child. She started performing on-stage as a confident teenager and this is when she started finding and forming her style of music. After teaming up with her guitar-playing husband Matt Hill, they established themselves as a powerful duo. She released her self-titled EP in June 2012 which received great appreciation and put her on the international map for several tours and concerts.
She takes stage on February 14 (Day 1), at 8:00 PMat Venue 1.
Thorbjorn Risager and The Black Tornado
Thorbjorn Risager is a Danish singer and leader of his seven-piece blues band. He picked up the saxophone at the age of 12, and discovered his vocal abilities along the way. With Ray Charles as one of his biggest influences, he has written and recorded over 40 songs. Thorbjorn Risager and The Black Tornado also have elements of jazz and funk dominating their sound. Since their start over 10 years ago with little change in their line-up, they have played in 15 countries. Their 8th album, ‘Too Many Roads’ released in March last year. In 2005 Thorbjørn Risager was awarded ‘Danish Blues Name of the Year’ by the Copenhagen Blues Festival.
They take stage on February 15 (Day 2), at 7:00 PMat Venue 1.
The Mahindra Blues Show by Warren Mendonsa and Friends
Warren Mendosa is an Indian blues guitarist, composer and record producer, known for his solo project Blackstratblues. Warren got his formal start in music in 1998 when he formed the rock band Zero with Sidd Coutto and brothers Girish and Rajeev Talwar. Blackstratblues' debut album,’ Nights in Shining Karma’ released in 2007. He has played at some of the biggest music venues and festivals in India. His composition, Ode to a Sunny day is part of Karsh's set for MTV’s Coke Studio. Blackstratblues is one of the most solid blues act to come out of India. He has played at previous editions of the Mahindra Blues Festival and done a fabulous job at it.
He takes stage on February 14 (Day 1), at 6:00 PM at Venue 1.
The True School Blues Experience
The True School Blues Experience includes performances by the students and faculty members of the True School of Music, Mumbai.
They perform at different intervals through Day 1 and 2 of the music festival.
What makes this festival so incredible isn’t just the line-up of amazing artists but also the exceptional production that goes into the show. With a two to three stage set up at the Mehboob Studio, these guys do a great job with their lights and sounds which only betters the whole concert experience.
