What’s on Your Playlist?

by Anisha Peter January 16, 2015

What’s on your playlist is a segment that features the top 5 or favourite 5 indie tracks of a well-known musician every week.

Our artist for this week is Tirthankar Poddar, better known as 2Blue .He is the lead singer of the Mumbai based band Zedde. He is one of the most respected vocalists in the scene today for his powerful vocals and an incredible stage presence, who is often compared to Steven Tyler of Aerosmith. What also makes 2Blue so inspiring is the fact that he quit his regular, day job to pursue a career in music and go the hard way. He is currently working with Alyque Padamsee as part of ACE production’s Jesus Christ Superstar where he plays the character of Judas.

The following are 2Blue’s top 5 indie tracks of the week:

  1. Trapped by Indus Creed

These guys made their debut as ‘Rock Machine’ almost 20 years ago. I was a fan back then and I’m a fan even today. They are the pioneers of Indian rock in ways more than one, so forgive my bias. Truth be told for the likes of us, if a thing was good once, it always is.

  1. Dear Mother by Manan Gupta

You’ll find it very emotionally rewarding to know that there are still parents out there who are different enough to let their children follow the heart and go into a world that is commonly considered dark and forbidden. These children often grow up to be hard working individuals with an undying desire to make the world a better place. Manan Gupta is one such passionate and motivated individual.

  1.   Parindey by Nitish Pires

Nitesh Pires covered 3,500 kilometres from Kanyakumari to Kashmir on a bicycle for 52 days to shoot the video for this song. It takes a man of strength, courage and determination to do what he did, and I don’t think there’s a better person to give us a message on free will. This kind of dedication brings out the meaning of this song so much better.

  1. Untitled by Blakc

Their 2009 debut album ‘Choking on a dream’ is something that is talked about with respect in the indie circle. If you intend on buying any of their albums, please note that your return on investment is guaranteed!

  1. Nada Nada by Avial

Avial is a beautiful testimony to the fact that music transcends barriers laid down by culture and language. I watched them play live at Narsee Monjee College a few years back. I was amazed to see how everybody in that college knew every word of every Avial song!
