In Focus - Saahas Patil

Saahas is a singer songwriter, and also the vocalist of the Bangalore based band Allegro Fudge. He impresses not only with his vocal abilities but also with his striking looks that attracts a good enough female audience. Besides learning and making music, he also works as a program manager at a children’s organization called U&I. Saahas recently started working on his solo project so we thought now would be a great time to chat and get to know more about him.

1. How did Allegro Fudge come together? How has your journey been with them so far?

Our keyboardist Jason was playing with Allegro Fudge for about two years before the current line-up joined them. It was just Jason and Joey (ex-guitarist) jamming and coming up with songs together. I was doing a vocal course at Nathaniel School of Music and after my course Jason asked me if I wanted to join them. Shalini was always a musician we looked up to, so we asked her to join us after our first bassist quit the band.

2. Tell us about the other bands/music projects you have been a part of.

I was a part of a lot of college bands. Also sang for a heavy alternative band called ‘Machine Era’. Now I’m heavily into my solo project, where I’m writing and producing my EP – Songs I Couldn’t Sing.

3. What have been your biggest musical influences? How do they influence your music today?

My first biggest musical influence was Dream Theater. I remember first listening to their song Through Her Eyes in the tenth standard just after my boards. I had never felt more alive. That was the feeling that I wanted to give through my music.

Right now my biggest influences are Ed Sheeran, John Mayer and Sam Smith. Their ability to write great songs and hooks is unparalleled and a lot of my music is a product of my inability to be these artists in my pursuit of trying.

4. As an independent singer/songwriter, how would you define Saahas’s music?

My music is simple, honest and intimate. I try to get as much emotion as I can into my music while writing and playing it.

5. Who are the top 3 Indie artists/bands you are currently listening to?

I’m not listening to any indie bands right now, but I love The Paper Kites.

I also just recently listened to this band called Kabir Café. I think their music is incredible.

6. What are your plans for 2015? What can we expect to look forward to?

I’m releasing my EP ‘Songs I Couldn’t Sing’ this year. I’m also going to be releasing singles every month until the formal EP release. I’m moving to Los Angeles to play my songs there as well.

7. When and where can we catch you live next?

No gigs scheduled in the near future.

8. Since we’re in the business of selling headphones, just out of curiosity, which brand of headphones/earphones are you currently using?

I use earphones while working out. They’re Audio Technica around the ear type earphones.

For the studio, I use the Focusrite Scarlett HP60 Headphones. I also just got the Sennheiser Momentum headphones as a gift from my sister and they’re absolutely incredible!
