Flat Sound Signature

A Flat sound signature offers an accurate presentation of sounds without adding colour to your music. Simply put, this sound signature presents audio without boosting any frequencies. As a result, it’s the most natural-sounding signature and provides the closest reproduction of how a track was recorded and produced. Due to their accurate sound reproduction, flat sound signature headphones are preferred by Music professionals, Sound Engineers and used in professional studios for mixing and mastering music tracks and are also loved by audiophiles for immersive listening sessions. You can listen to Classical, Rock, Jazz, Blues, Folk & possibly every genre in music.

For Studio & Professionals

As the name implies, anything branded as studio headphones is designed especially for a studio setting with a particular focus on accuracy and transparency for monitoring and mixing.

These headphones present an accurate image of your music than ordinary headphones, allowing you to hear every nuance and aspect of your music. Therefore, having a good set of studio headphones is just as important as any other gear in your studio.

These headphones provide a fresh perspective to that mix you’ve spent hours mastering and recording, essentially giving you another set of ears.

Ideal for
Indoor Use

Open-Back Design

Headphones with an open-back design, allow air to pass through the earcups. This means that Open-Backs do not block any noise from around you, as closed-backs do, and music being heard will also leak outside to people around you. So they can only be heard in a quiet environment.

However, Open-back headphones do sound more natural and open. Open-back headphones create a feeling of space, presenting audio as if you are sitting at a live concert. Audiophiles swear by open-back headphones, and they sound quite different to closed-backs.

These headphones are perfect for critical listening sessions, mixing and mastering music. They have an accurate soundstage presentation and precise imaging.

Needs Amplification

Headphones and IEMs require a certain level of power to sound their best and work at their full potential. When your headphones or IEMs are underpowered, they can sound thin or muffled.

Amplifiers are required to provide adequate power to your headphone or IEMs to perform at their best. Simply put, amplifiers allow a weak audio signal to be boosted to a powerful one.

To put it into perspective, devices such as your phones and laptops come with an amplifier, but they offer very limited output power. This output may not be sufficient to power headphones and IEMs to shine at their best. This is where a dedicated amplifier is required to deliver adequate power to hear your music in all its glory.

There’s no denying that the DT 990 PRO is a classic pair of headphones well suited for audio producers and music lovers alike. They present exceptional spaciousness and detailed tonal depth, they are like good-sounding pillows for your ears. Highly suited for mixing, they are one of the best studio headphones on the market at this price point.

RAGHAV SOMANI

For less than $200, it's not hard to understand why these are considered by many to be a classic pair of cans for audio producers and music lovers alike.
They sound great and reproduce instruments and vocals accurately. They sound a little sharp on brighter tracks, but they actually pack a lot of bass for an open back model.
The DT 990's are the most comfortable of all the headphones I own. They are lightweight and the earpads are soft. Anyone who listens to older Classical should add these headphones to collection.

Who am I - Just another casual filthy plebian listener.
Previous gear - those free nokia earphones (yeah i was poor af)
Current DAC - Fiio Q1 (yeah i bought the cheapest one about a year ago)

What i've listened to on 990s for the past week:
Movie - watched Guardians of Galaxy 2. Enjoyed it.
Games - played DotA2 and lost 1k MMR. Played DOOM and sh!t my pants. The soundstage was good. Could easily pin-point dem demons. Ahh the explosions were damn good.
Music - I listened to Behemoth, Black Sabbath, Priest you know which genre(s) i'm talkin about. I definitely enjoyed it. However, my flatmates listened to EDM and they didnt enjoy it possibly due to dem higher frequencies piercing the ears. Good for me...they wont touch my precious.
Porn - Yeah i listened to porn. Deal with it. U see how dem ppl say they could hear sounds they've never heard before...yeah i'm definitely not watching porn ever again after what i just heard XD.

Comfort level -
1) Ahh heaven on my ears.
2) Long marathon gaming sessions didnt heat up my ears. Open-back FTW!!! BTW i dont have AC in my room. Ambient temps around 30C. I do have a fan though.

Sound leak - Plebian flatmates think i'm listening on high volume and say i'll go deaf. Little do they know that open-back cans do leak sound...even on moderate sound levels.

What i've listened on:
DAC - I had to run my Fiio Q1 at 70% volume on high gain to get my preferred level of sound/sufficient power to my cans.
Motherboard - Gigabyte GA-AB350-Gaming-3 has an AMP-UP feature but that causes a hiss when set to max-gain. External DAC ftw!!!
Phone(s) -
1) Redmi Note 3 (running AOSPex not the stock OS) - felt good, clarity of music was there but the bass was not powerful enough when compared to DAC.
2) iPhone 6 - meh

P.S. i am new to mumbai (unknown neighbors) so i asked HZ team if i could deliver to their offices. They just agreed to it. Though later i just ordered to my home XD. Either way thank you HeadPhoneZone team for ...

Stopped working within 5 months

No complains about the quality of the product, I'm just unhappy with my experience. I'm a musician and I've been using them almost everyday since the time of purchase. Suddenly the right side of my headphones stopped working completely, and now I can only hear through the left side. No physical damage has been caused to product, there's some internal issue. I invested in this expensive product just to avoid these kind of issues. I'm really disappointed that they stopped working within the 5 months of purchase. They give you a 2 year warranty and you have to contact beyerdynamic directly to claim it. Both headphone zone and beyerdynamic do not provide you with a pickup in such cases, which is again very disappointing. I'm a resident of Mumbai and now I will have to courier these headphones to banglore myself. Extremely disappointed!

Hey Adiya, sorry to hear that your headphones are not working. As we are not the authorised service partners for Beyerdynamic, we can't really intervene in their warranty process :(

Just go for them.

Yes, they are 'that' good. Amazing comfort, good build quality, wide sound-stage, very flat frequency response(what I was looking for).

ABOUT THE SOUND QUALITY : Let me tell you this, the frequency range is very wide and of very high quality. You can hear from the deepest of the sub basses to the highest of the percussion from a track. It feels very natural and bright. The bass is tight and doesn't distort at all even at high volumes(Shows the amazing quality of the drivers used). Don't expect head thumping bass as it was made for studio applications but I can tell you that they are amazing for multimedia use too. Overall, a very balanced and rich audio response.

ABOUT THE OPEN BACK DESIGN : There is noticeable noise leak at high volumes and the user can hear the surrounding noise only at lower volumes. So, if you're in a room with a couple of people talking, the noise leak at moderate volumes won't annoy them but definitely hear what you're listening to and you won't be able to hear them talking.

P.S : I had to make a choice between these and the audio technica ath-m70x and I don't regret my decision :P

Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro 250 ohms of pure clean, rich, detailed power

Tested on inbuilt DAC of Asus ROG MAXIMUS VIII HERO ALPHA & Samsung Galaxy S9+

The frequency range is very wide & is very detailed. You can notice the deepest bass & the highest notes & percussion from a track. There are sounds in the songs which you will hear for the first time if you never used a quality grade headphones. The sound feels natural & bright. I do not find it to amp up highs, mids & low. But highs sometimes are too sharp, think too much piercing. I burnt it like 3 night in a row, (whenever I slept), the sound became more pleasant & warm. But that could very well be placebo. Do not expect boomy base like Sony or Bose. They are well balanced imo & really rich in detail. It doesn't distort at high volumes, though I would near a good amp to pump this beast to max. To be honest tho on my system I use it at 30-50% vol most often don't need more. I do not use these on the road or travel with it. For that, I have one Sony IEM & Bose SoundSport wireless. Vocals sounds so captivating, so much of depth.

Open back, greatly increases the dynamic range, in games, I can easily position enemies & other players on the footstep. Music doesn't feel 'suffocated' it feels as if it got some breathing room. Sounds in movies & Netflix often sounds spaced & not just 'in my ear' feeling with headphones. You need to try open backs, that is my thought. Open backs aren't meant in public/crowded space use, you can use it in your uber ride maybe. People just beside you will be able to make out what you listing to. The noise leak at moderate vol will not annoy most though. Also if you pause your music or mute it you can clearly hear the world around you. The brilliant sound stage offered with quality open backs is well worth it imo.

My gripes are the initial sharp highs, no detachable cables, & the silly nylon pouch. But that's nitpicking.
If you are confused with Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro & Edition, just get the Pro, its t...

Wow.!

This is one of the finest headphones i've ever listened. Coupled with LG G7 and the music is never like it before. Best value for money. Bass is precise but slightly less for me. I thought i might have to compromise on the bass. But eq'd and the driver responds well to the eq. So you can happily eq to your taste. Bass is fantastic. Mids are flat almost. Highs are rightly elevated. Resolution and sound stage are unparalleled to any headphones of this price.
