Replaceable Cables

A pair of headphones with a replaceable cable has many benefits, and one of them is if the connecting cable has a problem, it doesn’t mean that you have to buy a new one. If the connecting cable gets pulled or damaged, you can replace it and keep using your good-old headphones or IEMs. This way, your headphones will be protected and will last longer. With the advancements in cable manufacturing, you now get a variety of replacement cables with various termination options, lengths and quality.

Needs Amplification

If you plug your wired earphones/IEMs directly into your phone or laptop, you are probably not hearing them at their best. This usually happens because the amplifier in your phone or laptop is not capable enough; to drive your earphones/IEMs to their full potential.

A dedicated headphone amplifier is an elegant solution which can power your wired earphones/IEMs to their maximum capability. When you invest in a good pair of wired earphones/IEMs that are hard to drive, it is ideal to get a dedicated "amp" that will make your earphones/IEMs sound even better.

The ER4s have a lot of legacy and history. 'Ety heads', as they are called, swear by these as the greatest from the Etymotic lineup. It's still a single BA driver, but the ER4 sounds full-bodied. These are the flattest, reference sound that you can get. It's not for everyone, but only for those that want an uncoloured & neutral sound.

THE LEGACY OF QUALITY AND TRUST

Etymotic is credited with the invention of noise-isolating in-ear in-ear monitors 30 years ago. The Etymotic design adopted balanced armature receivers and was used for auditory research and hearing tests. This served as the standard benchmark for high-definition in-ear in-ear monitors. However, the Etymotic ER4 became the first noise-isolating, high-fidelity in-ear in-ear monitors to be featuring this unique technology in a consumer earphone. That's not all, these in-ear in-ear monitors are known to be the world leader in accuracy; when compared to other in-ear monitors. Therefore even after years, these reference-quality headphones are preferred by audiophiles, musicians and audio engineers.

EXPERIENCE NOISE ISOLATION AND SONIC PERFORMANCE LIKE NEVER BEFORE

The Etymotic ER4 are the first in-ear monitors to provide a completely sealed in-ear fit. They offer 98% (35dB - 42dB) noise isolation which is best when compared to any in-ear monitors available in the market. One of the benefits of best-in-class noise isolation is that you don't have to listen to your music at extremely high volumes. The Etymotic ER4 comes in two models SR and XR. Both ER4 models, the ER4SR and ER4XR, use the same Balanced Armature (BA) drivers. The only difference is the tuning of the lower (bass) frequencies. The ER4SR, being the "reference" model, is tuned to be as precise and flat as possible. The ER4XR, being the "fun" model, is tuned with added bass.

Bought as reference to compare with loud speakers while calibrating

I was hearing few negative reviews online on the fit which said that the internal canal of the ears were hurting for long time listening , I should say to the contrary that it was quite comfortable for me. The primary purpose of this purchase was to get used to studio grade sound which certainly will improve my ability on critical listening. Since I’m a audio calibrator I’d try and match the pink noise of the loudspeaker to the ER4’s by tweaking it through positional and electronic Eq . I’m glad that I was able to buy these through Headphone Zone cos if not them I don’t think the rest of sellers in the industry would have even heard of such great brands. Thank you for bringing in this brand into our country.

We're so happy to hear that you've had a good experience with us. Thank you so much for the positive feedback! It means a lot to us.

Etymotic Nails It !

I upgraded to ER4SR from an ER2SE. I wasn’t sure if the improvements were going to be significant. Also, internet forums do paint BA drivers as inferior to dynamic drivers.

Firstly, i was looking for a more accurate, but enjoyable sound signature. ER4SE delivers this well. The clarity is itself worth the upgrade. I heard this through the Qudelix 5K (on bluetooth) and the Chord Mojo. Bass is delivered as it is captured in the track, but it has no slam or won’t rattle the head. For complex tracks (Thundercat’s Uh Uh), what shines through is the instrument separation. BA signature was a non-issue for me.

In terms is isolation and comfort, it is an Etymotic. It does work for me. The triple flange stock tips actually fit me better than on ER2SE.

Overall, it sounds like a high end speaker that will work with most portable dac/amps. Its a real bargain!

Headphonezone service, as ever, was excellent.

Hey Gurpreet, Thank you so much for the positive feedback! It means a lot to us. We are so happy to hear that you are loving our products and services.

Best of the best! But

One of the best earphones I've ever heard and I've heard and owned quite a few.
It punches well above its weight and then some, absolutely flat and transparent. Well mastered tracks just sound right, there's no specific part of the spectrum that feels out of place. Just goes to show what could be accomplished by a well tuned single BA driver.

What I love about the SRs the most is the flat reference bass. It's the antithesis to the current trend of the overwhelming boosted bass found in almost all of earphones / headphones sold today. ER4SR actually offers the extension right into the sub-bass but it's ruler flat. And it results in bass textures that are otherwise lost in the bloated jumble; figuratively ear opening.

The treble is pleasant to my ageing ears and admittedly I can't make out anything above 14KHz, so take that with a grain of salt.

So why the 4 stars? Well, using these earphones reminds me of the SouthPark's episode "The Entity" where Mr. Garrison gets fed up with the airport delays and invents a revolutionary new transportation contraption which's a little more invasive than it needs to be, but people are still willing to put up with it to stick it up to the airlines. The ER4's seem a lot like that invention. Every time I put it 'in' I have to commit myself to it, uncomfortably so, but it gets me there and better than anything else. Also, I can't use it for more than half an hour at a 'stretch', and no matter how well you clean up, it's going to remind you to do better.

Jokes apart I'm using Fiio BTR5 and the triple flanged tips, I wish they invent a more comfortable pair with the same signature, I'll buy one again in a heartbeat. The accessories provided are top notch too.

Full marks to headphonezone as always to deliver it before time, in great packaging and at a great price. Keep up the good work guys.

Thanks a lot for your detailed and genuine feedback, we're glad that you have such positive thoughts about the product and we'll share your thoughts with the brand as well. It'll also help our fellow customers to make the right choice!

The Perfect Reference IEM

I finally purchased the legendary Etymotic - ER4SR after so many IEM's and headphones. It's a folklore amongst music enthusiasts at Head-fi.
I'll try to provide my brief analysis since I've tested it for 12 days.
The phone used was the Rog Phone 2. It's more than capable to power the Etymotic - ER4SR. Not to forget it also powered the Soundmagic E80C which is a 64 Ohms impedance budget IEM.
Design and Comfort: The IEM looks and feels premium. However, comfort wise it's a kind of a mixed bag specially if you are using the triple flange eartip. However, there are many eartips provided in the box so it wont be that difficult to get a secured fit and comfortable fit.

Sound Quality: This is where it really shines or may I say proves that it's the perfect reference IEM. The sound is completely flat, nothing is boosted. Newbies might not like it but if you're an audiophile or musician you will really appreciate it.
My previous headphone was the V-Moda M200 which was really good however it pales in front of the Etymotic - ER4SR. Also, its able to block out a lot of ambient sound. The best I have witnessed on an IEM so far.

Value for Money: For the characteristics of this IEM, the price is very low infact pretty reasonable. However, most Indians are really underpaid at work hence I would suggest you to first try out the Soundmagic E80C. It is an excellent IEM with a balanced soundstage.

Upon conclusion, I feel that one will truly appreciate the Etymotic - ER4SR once you've become a true connoisseur of music or let's just say flat sounding music.
