Headphone GuruThe ATH-M20x professional studio headphones are a great introduction to the critically acclaimed M-Series line. Modern design and high-quality materials combine to deliver a comfortable listening experience, with enhanced audio and effective isolation. An excellent choice for tracking and mixing.
The drivers used in the Audio Technica - ATH-M20x are 40mm large and custom-made drivers with copper-coated aluminum voice coils and rare-earth magnets. These studio headphones will make you hear everything that you've been missing out on.
The M20x is tuned to specifically enhance the lower end of the frequency spectrum. It produced a stupendously clear and clean sound. You can distinctly hear bright sounding vocals and instrumentals in a single track.
The cups literally contour your ears and place them inside an air-tight enclosure that feels plush and comfortable. There is no pressure being placed against your ears as a roomy interior is provided.
The M20x, even though made of plastic, is known for its use of high quality textured matte construction and overall solid durability. The Pro grade material has been used for the ear cups as well as the headband.
The 3m straight single-side cable is designed to make these studio headphones convenient for studio tracking, mixing and field recording. They are very convenient in terms of usage and make life simpler.

The warranty period is 3 Years from the date of invoice for all M-Series and E-Series (Pro Products). In order to claim a warranty, visit our Audio-Technica warranty page. We are very helpful guys, just saying.
Very flat. Essentially made for professional studio monitoring, you can expect a neutral sound from the Audio Technica ATH M20x. Bassheads, leave now before you set yourself up for disappointment.
Although your smartphone and laptop will be able to drive it, an amplifier would certainly bring out the true potential of the Audio Technica ATH M20x. Read more about amplification and why it's important here.
Both these headphones are great entry level studio monitoring and so to help you make the choice read more information here
They have an impedance of 47 OHMS. A bit power hungry.
It is not particularly suitable for traveling. Since the cable is about 3m and is not detachable, you can't fold it and there is no traveling case included.
You will get only 1 cable which is not detachable.
These Studio headphones are mostly used by studio professionals and come with a 6.3mm adaptor for use with consoles. You can also use the 3.5mm jack with your laptop or smartphone.
Sure, mate! Why not? Stay away from people who say otherwise.

Being a music journalist and music production specialist by profession has given me the opportunity to test out a lot of headphone in my life. But I always prefer Audio Technica headphones for my personal use. And the best way to test out a headphone is to play songs by Steven Wilson in it.
When I played songs like She's Moved On, Trains, Blackest Eyes, Vermillioncore, Harmony Korine and The Raven That Refused To Sing on my Audio Technica-m20x I was quite satisfied with the clarity and balance in sound that this headphone offered. Its not quite powerful as my M50x but it is still awesome for regular and casual use. I would recommend this for listeners who want affordable headphones that have a really good sound quality.
Hey Arka! That was a good review and i hope many would feel this review to be helpful for them. It would be great if you could become a guest writer for us and we would also like to invite you to join our Audiophile community on facebook called The Indian Audiophile Forum. Here, check it out: https://www.facebook.com/groups/The.Indian.Audiophile.Forum/
There are a lot of Audiophiles there sharing their gear, their audio files, engaging on hot new releases and simply talking the audiophile lingo.
If you love .mp3 songs, don't buy it.
If you know about wav, flac and Apple Lossless Audio formats, BUY IT.
Pros:
1. The headphone pads are soft.
2. Audio quality is perfect. I've tested the quality by using Ableton Live 9's EQ 8 (Loudness dB of audio at each frequency is correct.)
3. It works perfect with my Levono K5 Note (3500 mAh)
(It works well even with feature phones XD.)
4. It comes with a detachable pin for Pioneer Controller, Studio mixer & Sound Card.
5. It's suitable for Electronic Music production.
Cons:
1. Some guys could find hard to hear 808 / Sub-bass sounds. (You will need to purchase a sound card as LOW LATENCY settings are required to hear BASS sounds)
(Note: BASS does not sound like bubble sounds that you normally hear on inexpensive headphones. The BASS sounds like earthquake vibrations.)
2. Frequency range of the headphones: 15Hz - 20000Hz
Human hearing range: 20Hz - (44.1 / 2) Hz
Sorry for my bad English.
Have fun while producing.
I'm am a bass enthusiast, or may I say I 'was' a bass enthusiast.
I've tried Skullcandy, JBL, Logitech, Beats by Dre, Sennheiser, and this baby. I craved for bass before I got Audio Technica. Here I am today, writing this review with this amazing piece of art on my ears.
You love bass? Need deep thumping bass in every song? Then buy these. No, these headphones do not boost bass, but, when I say it will change how you listen to music, believe it. You will start to appreciate the faintest of sounds in the music, those little touches of sweetness that you did not know existed. These headphones will make you rediscover music. They have the perfect bass that matches effortlessly with the rest of the music, producing the most minute details, making the song sound rich.
They have a flat response, for people who don't know what that means-
headphones like Beats have a bass boosting design. They basically adulterate the music, adding more bass and compromising on the details. Months and millions on mastering music, creating the perfect balance between every part and frequency and bass. Bass boosting headphones go over that balance, crank up the bass high and the rest of the frequencies suffer.
Audio Technica delivers unadulterated, untouched, raw music. Straight from the label, the frequency levels are unchanged, into your ears, produced by 2 speakers, arguably one of the best in traditional electric coil design, which can produce great deep crispy bass if the sound file has it. You listen to music like the artist intended you to listen. If you want to out the bass of the headphone, just search a "bass boosted" version of your favorite song on YouTube.
Pros:
Extremely comfortable.
Unmatched sound.
Abnormally clear.
Excellent bass.
Great build.
Look great.
Great cable, strong and thick, 3m long so it's very handy for me
Cons:
Hard to store, not very portable.
No carry bag.
3m long wire, some might have difficulty with managing the cable.
I am happy with the purchase. Thanks Headphone Zone for their recommendation. Not too bulky. Its very light weight and build quality is very good. The cable is bit long. However, it is very soft and manageable. Sound quality is good compare with previous headphone (Sennheiser 180 cx and PX80). Very comfortable and can be use for long duration. I am using it with Fiio Q1 DAC.
Regarding sound quality, no problem with low. Its enough. Only feel that mid are bit low.
Most of the time I use it with my Moto G5 plus with Q1 DAC. Headphone Zone please suggest a better source device within budget for better listening experience.
The free velour ear pads that's provided with this headphones isn't good. Also on the website it's shown as the ear pads are free but in the bill I received the headphones are charged for 3070 and about 700 for the ear pads. Not exactly free is it? Or is it for some other reason? I don't know.
What I do know is it's an entry level headphone into the monitor line and performs well over various frequencies as its pretty flat. Been using this continuously for few days now and if you can work around with an equalizer you can extract pretty decent sound quality from it for various genres of music as you prefer and it's well suited for even casual music listening. The bass is crisp and sharp and doesn't overshadow other frequencies. Coming to build quality, it seems sturdy enough but the fit isn't comfortable for long usage. The ear pads begin to stick to the skin and causes tension and pain as it sweats.
The sound us very clear specially for producers they can hear and analyze with this headphone. If you are new producer like me i would say go for it. I tried jbl and senheiser but the build quality and sound quality both are awesome in this headphone. Happy producing!!
First of all I would like to write about Headphone Zone. My friend recommended me this site and I was a bit skeptical. Asked for help from the headphone gurus and got a call the next day and man the guru helped me solid. Ordered these headphone and in less than 2 days they were delivered, perfectly packed and that too a free delivery! Coming to these headphones, they are just lovely, just superb. The sound quality is beautiful, clarity is top notch, the bass is good enough, not a thumping one which reduces clarity. The ear cups are soft and sound proof, really comfortable though you will feel the standard heating of your ears after a while. Plastic doesn't look or feel cheap, a sturdy build and the cable is solid as well though a bit long for normal use. In the end a perfect pair of headphones for those who don't wanna spend a lot, actually one of the best in this range and kudos to this site for their amazing services. Definitely worth recommending this site to others.
Hey Abhinav, thanks for your compliments and praises. They motivate us to work harder! As for the product, it sure is a great one. We are so glad that we provided an awesome experience to a first time visitor. Spread the word! Also we would like to invite you to our community of Audiophiles called The Indian Audiophile Forum. I was honestly surprised at how good these sounded.
The headphones get really loud and produce crystal clear sounds. The ATH-M20X is not meant for folks who like drama in their sound definition. In fact, it produces a crystal clear sound with absolutely no distortion and good Bass.Owing to the fit, the passive noise isolation is enough to suppress most ambient sounds with ease.
Pros :
Good sound definition
Comfortable earcups
Great treble
Cons :
Long cable
No Carrying Case ( If that matters to you) :D
PS: Thanks to Headphone Zone for their great service , They reached on time and well shipped (packaging and stuff) !! ..

Wireless or wired?
The M20X a wired headphone!
Is the 3-year warranty global? in other words, if I buy this in India today, will I be able to claim the warranty in the future if i'm living in a different country (for example, Canada)?
Yes, the 3 year warranty by Audio technica is globally accepted!
Is it Compatible with shanling M0 hi res music player
Yes, this is compatible with the Shanling Mo
What do you mean that it needs amPlification ?
The M20X has a higher than normal impedance, which means it requires more power which can be delivered by an amplifier. That is why we say it needs Amplification.
Is this headphone include mic to use for teams meetings via laptop or computer
No, the M20X does not have a mic, as it is a Studio Monitoring Headphone!
does it work well with a macbook pro given its impedance
It would work fine with a MacBook Pro, but would obviously perform better if given power through an Amp!
Are there any headphones similar to these but with a mic as well? looking for something from 2-5k. criteria is comfort and microphone.
In this sort of a price range, for a headphone with mic you can look at the Edifier K800 or the HyperX Cloud Stinger Core. Both don't have the sound quality of the M20X though, so there is a trade-off on the cards!
Is it necessary to have a amps to run M20X ? Is it possible to use it with smartphones
The Audio Technica ATH-M20X can be used with phones, but the headphones would sound much better when connected to an Amplifier!
How many hours it can be worn continuously, I want something which I can use for 5 hours straight for studying, is it ideal for that? if not then which one should I go for. my requirements (order not important): 1. noise isolation 2. comfort 3. durability 4. wired 5. not too high price 6. sound quality
It's a studio monitoring headphone and it is comfortable to use for long hours. Sound quality is flat so if you want to use them for studio or for critical listening then it would be perfect!
-Varun
Will this work for recording?
If you mean to use these while recording a song, sure! They'll work well. But if you want to record a song using them (e.g. sing on a karaoke track in your phone and record) then let me tell you, it does not come with an in-built microphone.
my phone has ES9018K2M audio chip which does support 24-bit/192kHz audio so should I buy these headphones or look for some other headphones in similar price range(which maybe might need less dac requirement)?
As your phone is loaded with ES9018K2M audio chip, you don't require an additional AMP/DAC to drive them.
