Schiit Modi 3
5V USB Wall-Wart
USB Micro Cable
Yes. But that’s not all—it is also the best delta-sigma Modi we’ve ever made. It’s also the most versatile Modi we’ve ever made. And it also comes with a cable and a wall power supply.
Yep, Modi Multibit is the least expensive multibit DAC based on a modern platform—from any manufacturer, anywhere. We’re pretty proud of it. It’s got a whole lot of technology packed into it, from its DSP-based digital filter to the unique-to-audio AD5547 D/A converter. And, it has a 100% linear power supply, 100% standard.
Pretty much. Both Modis can be used with virtually any computer with no drivers: Windows, Mac, or Linux distros that support UAC 2.0. Some older Windows machines may need a driver, which we provide at schiit.com/drivers. You can also use both Modis with phones and tablets, as well as most Intel Chromebooks.
Lots. Let’s break it down:
The wall adapter is universal in the sense that you can plug it into pretty much any common AC wall voltage--100V to 240V--and it will (a) not self-immolate, and (b) provide 5V out of a USB connector. It does have a US/Japan style plug, but you can use a plug adapter and plug it in pretty much anywhere. Or you can use any 5V-out USB wall adapter you have handy. Or a battery pack. Or a computer.
The catch is you don’t get the fancy button and LEDs of the Modi Multibit. You also don’t get the DSP-based digital filter, or the AD5547 DAC. You also lose the linear power supply for a switcher.
We’ve said we would never use one where we didn’t need to. In this case, to hit the performance and price we were looking for, it needed a switcher. Don’t worry. It’s a very nice switcher.
We think you’re a little strange, because the output of that fancy power supply is going into a switcher, anyway. But if it makes you happy, we’re not going to stop you. Nor will we try to sell you such a power supply.
Right. If you’re looking at standard performance metrics for steady-state signals, delta-sigma DACs will measure better than Multibit. If you’re looking for measurements, Modi 3 is your DAC.
Let us cut you off right there, because we know how this argument goes. And goes. And goes. And keeps on going. Here’s the deal: we are free to believe what we want. So are you. If your belief system leads you to devices that perform well by standard metrics, cool. If not, that’s also cool. There’s room for both viewpoints. Look up “Schiit Happened, The Objectivist/Subjectivist Synthesis.” And even then you may think we’re entirely full of it. And that’s cool.
Actually, the question should be “What platforms support your USB input?” since our USB input is 100% UAC2 compliant (that is, USB Audio Class 2, the accepted standard for USB audio transmission.) So, here you go:
We did. They’re just in different chassis and costs another $99-149. They’re called “Magni 3” and “Vali 2.” The latter of which even gives you a tube! Now you have options, instead of a single boring, soon-to-be-obsolete combo box.
Because you want something big enough to hold down the curling veneer on the fake-bark stereo rack you got on sale at K-Mart in 1979. Or because you want even higher performance. Or upgradability. Modis aren’t upgradable.
If it’s your experience that all DACs sound the same, that’s cool. There’s a DAC in your iPhone or Android phone, so you can use that one and save even more cash.
Don't sweat it, this Schiit Modi 3 comes with a 2 year warranty from Schiit that covers manufacturing defects. All products featured on Headphone Zone are backed by an original manufacturer's warranty.

I have connected this dac to my marantz integrated amplifier, and it sounds very good, it's slightly high on bass side, but still its very clear and stereo imaging is perfect.
I am using my Schiit Modi 3 DAC with my Logitech Squeezebox and Cambridge Audio CA351 amp. The quality of sound has improved a lot since I switched over from the internal DAC in the Squeezebox. Still in the burning in process, therefore I'll put in a detailed review later.
Thank you headphone zone for the quick delivery. Coming to the product it has opened up the soundstage to a great extent, every instrument and vocals are crystal clear.Loving the sound coming from my wharfedales.
i have three dacs 2 from topping and one from nobsound all chinese dac i have topping dx3 pro its using DUAL ak4493 dac and topping d10 using ess 9018 k2m dac and nobsound is having ess 9038 dac not the pro version . modi3 is only having akm ak4490 dac chip ITS 4 year old dac chip . but it still sound better than all three dac .i only got modi 3 last week it is not properly burned in if there is such a thing as burn in period .i think its not about the dac its more about implementation .even though ak4490 is an old dac still sounds better .HAPPY WITH THE PURCHASE .
Over all excellent sound quality from a good product at decent price.
Desire-ables are input cables , good RCA cables.these should be offered at max 10% premium or be included.
Installation Instructions and better packaging are also required
I was looking for a dac to upgrade tge sound from the tv set top box and normal cd player and feed it to my stereo amp powering floor standing speakers. During my discussion with a friend in TIAF he introduced me to modi 3. Did some research , got convinced, but it was already out of stock. Now the wait started and one saturday the notification from HPZ came that it is back on stock. Ordered it then and there. And guess what by monday it is already out of stock.
With my amp Nad 326 bee which is actually warm sounding amp the addition of Modi 3 added more warmth. I had to turn down the bass knob down to minimum to make the sound more natural. The details that these bring out are awesome . it has been a VFM upgrade to overall sq of the system. Totally worth the price. Wish it had a bluetooth connectivity too.
For sub 10000 INR, Modi-3 is the best desktop DAC you can buy. Very clean output and good connectivity options. This time it's USb 5V powered so no worry about bulky AC power bricks. Separate power and data port ensure lower noise and easily can be hooked up with even phones. Only draw back is no On/Off switch. So far very happy with this purchase.
I bought this as I screwed up my CA DACmagic 100 while trying to switch back to 5532 from LME 49720 (by the way you need to be electronic buff to understand what I mean),
This DAC is solid performer and compete any thing that costs 25000(other than Schiit). If you want to begin your journey for good quality audio this the start point and a big step as any thing after this with better sound quality will cost you more than 25K.
After waiting for a long long time, I finally decided to buy a DAC. I was torn between IFI nano and modi 3. Finally, bought the modi3 when I was promptly notified by HPZ that it's in stock (thumbs-up for this!). Connected the modi to my mac air - no drivers, no sweat. It instantly appeared in the volume control menu. Played a few from Leonard Cohen and Ilayaraja. Boy, this schiit is good. Real good! Very neutral. The AKM DAC talks about the velvet sound and so the treble was a bit recessed. Adjusted that part a bit and it's all good! For now, really happy with this DAC. Thanks again to headphone zone for making this available. Highly recommended.

when will schiit modi 3 dac be available again soon?
Hey there, currently there is no specific timeline for the availability for the Schiit - Modi 3.
The story of Schiit Audio begins with two veteran audiophiles Jason Stoddard, formerly of Sumo, and Mike Moffat, formerly of Theta coming together to shake things up a bit. Both of them have extensive experience in developing lots of audio and A/V products including the Andromeda III, Cobalt 307, DS Pre and Angstrom 200. From power amplifiers, I/V conversion stages, D/A converters, relay-switched stepped attenuator volume controls in preamps to developing the first DTS home theatre surround processor on the market, Schiit Audio has developed a lot of audio products over the years.
Headphones are the need of the hour everyone who likes music uses a headphone. Therefore Schiit Audio moved to develop personal audio equipment while continuing to design a speaker-based system which includes the industry-leading preamps, amps and DACs. So right now Schiit Audio has a plethora of audio products ranging from personal audio to speaker-based systems. Schiit designs affordable audio products that bring happiness in your lives.
Unlike ordinary DACs that use delta-sigma, NOS (new old stock) D/A chips, multibit chips, high-cost R2R ladders, Schiit uses unique DSP-based closed-form digital filter which improves the sonic performance of the multibit DAC. Therefore the Schiit's multibit technology brings all of it together using the current-production, medical/military grade D/A converters.
Schiit has opted for an innovative approach for the analog side as well. Even the most affordable Schiit headphone amplifier is a miniature, fully discrete, DC coupled, current-feedback power amplifier. Schiit is credited for introducing Continuity output stage to solve the issue of transconductance droop which was common in Class AB amplifier design. Schiit has also developed balanced topologies like Nexus in Ragnarok 2 and a perfect combination of tube and solid-state with Coherence in Lyr 3.
All the Schiit products are designed for solidity and durability. Even the smallest of the products are made of aluminium and steel while the larger products are made of high-end C core transformers, power supply filtering and low-noise control. All the products have to go through severe testing procedures including the latest APx555 audio analyzer and Avermetrics analyzers. Every product from Asgard and up goes through burn-in to address the issues faced during the initial period of usage. Schiit takes care of all the service and support requirements so that you can concentrate on great sound.
Schiit believes that local control of all the aspects of production improves the delivering of the product. Therefore all the Schiit products are designed and made in the USA and most of the cost of the components are going to the US-based companies. Assembled in the USA means that Schiit's chassis guys are from San Fernando Valley, Schiit transformers are made in California, Schiit boards come from the east coast of the USA and all the designing, assembling and testing of Schiit products happen in Valencia, California.
