The innovative SR-L300 is, like all the others in Stax’s Lambra series, an ultra-high fidelity device due to its electrostatic technology. It produces a sound that would only be comparable to other loudspeakers (& not headphones). Hence, it is only fair that this headset be called an Earspeaker. Keeping in line with its predecessors, the SR-L300 has top notch sound quality. Stainless photo etched electrodes are fixed securely for a clear transparent audio. The headphone gives a balanced sound with delicate highs, soothing mids and a deep bass.
Electrostatic designed have been pioneered by Stax and they are clearly at the top of the game. The electrostatic headphones operate on a an unconventional level unlike other headphones that feature dynamic and moving coil designs. In most headphones, the drivers are heavier, making it difficult to recreate detail in playback due to mass. To keep the quality of music from deteriorating, the Stax SR-L300 uses an Oxygen Free Copper (OFC). This cable uses a wide flat structure to reduce the capacitance between wires and to drive it effectively so that your music always sounds its best.
Everything about the SR-L300 is made to enhance the sound and your listening experience. This also includes the artificial leather earpads. The flexibility of these earpads provides added comfort while letting you feel the freshness of your music. The SR-L300 is made for comfortable listening. The stepless slider mechanism, lets you adjust the soft headpad for a better fit. This avoids fatigue and enables you to entirely immerse yourself in the music.

I have LCD-2C and iSine10 in addition to this Stax SR-L300 (all thanks to the good folks at HPZ). After listening to the Stax for about one month (with SRM-252S) I can say that music has become so much more transparent and detailed. Instrument separation is phenomenal. Bass is of very high quality, tight, impactful and fast, as good as the LCD-2C in quality but noticeably less in quantity. In any case a slight boost in lowest range of EQ would give acceptable bass. Coming from LCD-2C (which has industry standard bass), i do not find the bass quantity to be lacking so much. Mid range and treble are seamless, airy, ethereal and smooth, the best I have ever heard (apart from my practice sessions with unplugged instruments- myself being a guitarist for about 30 years). Guitars sounds as good as the real ones. Distortion is non-existent, so you can listen at very high volumes without any fatigue. Soundstage is same as LCD-2C. No grain as this is extremely fast, so female vocals are represented much better than LCD-2C. Comfortable to wear for long hours for me (if you have large ears the back may touch the inside because of the shallow earpads). To give an idea of the sound quality of the Stax L300 i only wish to say that I recently sold off my 3 year old Senn HD650, and I will keep LCD-2C. HD650 has weaker, bloated bass and is muddy (don't mistake me, it's all comparing with Stax only, otherwise HD650 is pure audiophile entertainment). Stax SR-L300 is highly recommended even if you have the best dynamic headphones.
