Schiit - Loki
Don’t sweat it, This Schiit product is covered by a 2 Years manufacturer's warranty.
The device does its job well in terms of controlling the frequencies. It works better than 31 channel equalizers in terms of usage as well as distortion. The bypass mode is perfect.
One problem that I am struggling with is a loud hum. I have very sensitive speakers so Loki is almost useless for me unless I find a way out. Plugging into different power sources has not solved the issue. It uses AC power so I cannot try a different power supply. The hum goes off completely in the bypass mode, so it is not related to any other part of my system :(
It has been a few days since I plugged the Loki into my system and I'm sure I cannot live without it. As the description says it allows you to tune the sound according to your taste. I have found myself enjoying the poorer recordings in my collection much more since the Loki is plugged in. I can also compensate for issues with room acoustics. The unit is sufficiently transparent to allow you to clearly hear differences between cables used upstream in the chain. The build and finish is excellent and the knobs have a firm motion. I would say that this goes a long way towards correcting issues with tonal balance in your recordings or system components. I also like to listen at low volumes and the Loki helps me get a good tonal balance at very low volumes too - people using older stereo amps will remember the loudness control and tone controls (these are no longer common with most audiophile equipment today)
However, do not expect this to make something really crappy sound good - though it will go a long way towards making it sound better!
Everything considered, this is something I would recommend to everybody. Like all the products from Schiit, the value for money proposition is fantastic.
