  • The Long Story

    Your Music. Now Remote Controlled.

Trust Schiit to build a preamp so unique! The Saga is made for those who desire the best for their home audio setup. The custom remote control allows you to control volume, input switching, output switching and muting.

Choose from Passive or Active Amp Modes

Depending on how close you are to your setup as well as what kind of sound you’re in the mood for, the Saga has two modes to choose from. The Active mode is best used for when you have to drive long cables and want to take advantage of the warm tube sound. This mode uses the 6H8C based hybrid tube buffer. The result? A mean machine running on 200V for incredibly low levels of distortion. The Passive mode is what makes the Saga preamp as cool as it is: a mode which is most ideal for hi-fi systems. With the Passive mode, you get to enjoy the convenience of the remote control.

    Potentiometers are so Yesterday

The Saga is advanced in a lot of ways - you can control the volume using its relay stepped attenuator for perfect channel matching. Most other preamps are susceptible to channel imbalance at lower volume levels because they use a potentiometer to control volume.

Meet your Bifrost’s Match in the Saga

Schiit’s DACs are a demanding bunch and the remote-controlled system on the Saga offers for a truly no-compromise hi-fi audio listening experience when used together.

    Made in USA

The vast majority of the total production cost of Saga - chassis, boards, assembly goes to American companies manufacturing in the US. Making Schiit's Saga truly 'Made in USA'.

The Schiit Saga

So, I went from all-DACs-are-the-same, to a DAC/amp, external DAC (but direct to amp) to getting a dedicated pre- the Schiit Saga that fits between my Bifrost multibit DAC and the Schiit Vidar, in rather short order.

Now this is a piece of kit that does nothing. You get source selector and volume control for your money. Oh and a Fido compatible remote too.

But it does that nothing really well.

The Schiit Saga blows the DAC direct straight out of the water. No comparison. Bass, sound stage, fantastic mids, the works. There can be no going back. To trot out that worn out cliche, summer day and winter night.

I am running it with the stock tubes (because I am very happy with the sound and also am very broke in the toys money line item code). I cannot make out any difference with the tube buffer and the passive modes.

Go ahead and get one :) Which one - Saga for Speakers & Freya for Headphones (that recco is off sbaf, I am a speakers in a room guy).

If I have a crib it is about the availability of Schiit stuff from hpz. I could get only one of my three pieces of Schiit from hpz. The ordering and delivery of that item (Saga) was super smooth.
