Got the AKG 712 PRO after a long search and comparison for open back headphones. Not much reviews are found in the NET for these. The setup I am using is a iPhone7 plus with a Fiio USB cable to an ALPEN 2 DAC AMP. Have been using M50X from audio technica and Beyerdynamic custom one Pro for a few years, Good sounding heaphones though, but I wanted to add an open back for home listening. The search ended with AKG pro 712 with the price point being the deciding factor. I am glad to say that theese cans rock, the response across wide frequency range is simply amazing and the sound stage it delivered is far superior from the closed cans I have been owning. Clarity across mid and high with clear seperation in deep bass is astounding. The claim of 3db increase in lows is evident. There is no rumbling bass and people who enjoy the bass rather than expecting a rumble will certainly enjoy the sound signature. The support of DAC has to be mentioned as well, Driving directly from the phone was not much, Including the DAC/AMP certainly bought out the capability of these headphones. Clamping force is adequate and no adjustments needed. The leather band supports well and for varied head sizes. Its just the bang for the buck and I definitely recommend this for long hours of listening based on both sound signature and comfort of wearing.
Support of Headphone Zone has been amazing with quick and secure shipment and prompt communication. Appreciate your help and service.
P.S: Not advisable for office or public space listening. Intended for indoor use. Sound leak since open cans is inevitable.
These sound really great!
NOTE: don't assume that these are easy to drive looking at the claimed impedance of 62ohm. These really need a good source. I use them with the Fiio X7 ii with the higher power AM5 amp module (default am3a simply won't cut it). Don't bother running these of your phone, even if you get enough volume, they aren't gonna sound as good as they are capable of.
Also, I should point out though that the treble can get a bit hot on certain(poor) recordings.
AKG - K712 Pro
I was in search of a decent open back headphones with a wide sound staging and flat response. AKG K712 pro are right on the money. I also own the Audio Technica ath-m50x, and I have to say they sound harsh in comparison with the AKGs. The overall sound of the AKGs is very balanced. The mids and the sub mids are the area where these headphones really shine. The treble is mellowed. The bass is just perfect for serious referencing and/or studio monitoring. You will require a decent amp and source to get these things to shine though. All in all I would say the best headphones for the price range out there. Thanks headphonezone for making these available in India at a competitive price.
First of all a shout out to headphonezone. I could buy this headphones for few thousand less on other online stores but i had previous experience with headphonezone and i was right. Even though there was unrest in bengaluru, i got my headphones within 3 days and the packaging, invoicing and support is top notch.
I don't write really big reviews so i will try to sum it up.
This headphone is notable for having a good dynamic range as well as soundstage. The middle and high frequencies does not get muddled, no matter how much the bass is.
I do feel that this headphone is a bit power hungry as connecting it to laptop or phone provides average sound.
Best headphones I have ever heard.I have been using Philips & ATH for nearly 10 years. My prior headphone were the Philips SHP2700 (semi-open) & ATH m30x (close back) which I thought good but K712 are superior in every way to the SHP2700 and the ATH m30x headphone I had,The k712 are smooth with realistic tight bass & sound stage is impressive & also headphones is shaking every time like subwoofer again I love it... They are comfortable for long time use and i use to Iisten to 90% of R&B & Hip-hop music and after that Rock,Hard metal. I think that i m not a audiophile type but it turns out i'm.
I do not believe you can go wrong with these phones unless you are a serious loud bass head.I'm using Xonar Essence STX sound card... for high gain (+12db) I use 64 to 300 Ohms setting & sound leakage is so minimum at 50% no one will notices that. I m use to listen 35 to 45% of my full volume cant go up anymore.
