- Supports DSD to PCM
The Astell&Kern AK100 II supports DSD, the digital audio format widely considered to be the next-generation in high resolution audio. The 5.6 MHz DSD is supported via 'DSD to PCM' by utilizing a Dual Core CPU and converting/downsampling to 176 kHz PCM.
Supports Master Quality Sound
The AK100 II is capable of supporting Master Quality Sound. MQS is a high definition digital music format operating at 24 bits and sample rates from 96 to 192 kHz, which leads to distortion-free sound without data loss. MQS sources are generally saved as a lossless 24-bit WAV or FLAC files during record production at the time of the mastering source.
The AK100 II has an integrated Cirrus Logic CS4398 DAC that allows the player to provide high definition sonic quality and detail, and can be used as an external DAC for PC or Mac via USB. The USB DAC feature also supports UAC 1.0 (USB Audio Class 1.0 / 24-bit, 96 kHz) audio output.
Full AMOLED Touch Screen
The 3.3" AMOLED touchscreen (an 82% increase over the previous screen's size) provides smartphone-like full touch capabilities with a responsive interface and a larger screen for more information. The Album View screen has been completely overhauled. The larger screen offers a view of six albums compared to its predecessor's four. In addition to the music in the internal storage, music on the MQS Server can be searched during MQS Streaming.
High Band EQ
The AK 100 II provides extended frequency control with a 10 band graphic EQ in .5 dB increments. Along with this, multiple user EQs are supported so that users may create custom EQs to fit each music genre and change them whenever they want to.
64GB In-Built + 128GB Expandable Memory
The AK100 2nd Generation features 64GB of inbuilt memory while supporting microSD cards of up to 128 GB. The AK 100 II therefore has a total storage capacity of 128 GB! This inbuilt capacity itself is capable of storing approximately 625 or more MQS audio files.
Supports Multiple File Formats
The Astell&Kern AK100 II is capable of seamlessly supporting a vast collection of music files across all formats be it, DXD, DSD 64/128, PCM @384kHz/64bit, FLAC, ALAC, WAV, or APE.
Single DAC & Balanced Out
Although the depth in sound quality delivered by Balanced Out was proven in Astell&Kern's flagship model, they wondered if the same quality could be achieved by implementing the Balanced Out with a Single DAC. The newly designed demo board delivers everything they ever wanted. The AK100 2nd Generation provides a rich, warm sound through the re-tuned A-amp designed especially for the CS4398 Single DAC.
With the AK100II, it's no longer required to turn on your PC, search for music, connect a device, and transfer files. Just connect the AK100 2nd Generation to your PC or Mac via Wi-Fi on the same network and download or stream music wirelessly. Plus, as long as you are connected to Wi-Fi, Astell&Kern will notify you of firmware updates as soon as they launch from wherever you are. AK 100II users receive firmware updates immediately.
Supports Bluetooth 4.0 & Wi-Fi for Wireless Convenience
The AK100 II lets you stream your music to your wireless headphones, hi-fi systems or car stereos easily with the help of its Bluetooth 4.0 codec. You can also access or download your music from your PC via Wi-Fi.
Redesigned Volume Wheel & Guard
The AK100 II’s volume wheel consists of two parts: the head and the root. The head is the knurled part that controls the volume wheel by holding it securely. The root is the base of the volume wheel and wrapped in a guard that’s directly connected to the hardware. This division into two parts enhances the usability and stability of the AK100 2nd Generation, while the robust components also provide further protection from external damage.
Twin Protection Layers on Aluminium Body
The AK100 2nd Generation’s aluminum body and protector appear like overlapping layers. For the first layer, a luxurious hairline and diamond cut finish is utilized for the aluminum body. These two finishing processes add weight to the material while the second layer acts as the protector. The three delicate lines that are carved into the protector are reminiscent of string instruments, and symbolize the delicacy of sound that Astell&Kern provides.
Up To 12 Hours of Battery Life

"I actually find the least expensive model to be the most palatable for long-term listening. No, it isn't as impressive on first listen. It doesn't have the transient snap of its more ambitious siblings. The whole presentation is a little more loose. Softer, less immediate, with a corresponding reduction in spacial accuracy. And yet...it's not bad, not bad at all. I actually think I like it more under certain circumstances, depending on the headphones and music at play. The AK100 II is a little more forgiving, less "in your face" with its treble presentation. Still not to be confused with a Calyx or Pono, the AK100 II remains fairly neutral overall, while just a hair less forceful than its pricier siblings."
"Overall, while not cheap by any means, I think the AK100 II offers outstanding value as it rivals some of the better and more costly desktop rigs."
