Cayin C9 comes with a high-quality 4-ch JFET and BJT based fully balanced headphone amplification circuit for portable application. To achieve the desired audio performance, the input signal is handled by a quad set of WIMA coupling capacitors and two matched pairs of LSK489 DUAL JFET differential amplifiers. The final output stage is composed of a matched quad set of doubled BJT in parallel, providing 4100mW of power for IEMs and headphones. The C9 offers dual operation modes with Class A and Class AB amplification. With Class A mode you get low distortion and warm sound. Class AB offers a higher dynamic range with clean audio output. The Cayin C9 has been designed to offer maximum flexibility in terms of operation and connectivity. Cayin C9 features dual input modes with regular line input mode and pre-amp input mode supporting 3.5mm single-ended and 4.4mm balanced connection for both input and output. Line input receives fixed voltage audio signal from line-level output and functions as a headphone amplifier with local volume control. Pre-amp receives variable voltage audio signal from Pre-amp output and functions as a power amplifier while volume is controlled at the source equipment. This is topped off with dual-stage gain control with High Gain and Low Gain configuration which is MCU controlled and optimized automatically when either is selected. The volume is controlled by 4-channels of ALPS potentiometer with a pair of a stereo electronic volume knob. This offers precision and low distortion while changing volume.

To facilitate the compact design, the engineers at Cayin adopted a battery-powered design for the C9 with a removable battery module with 4 user-replaceable Sony18650 rechargeable lithium batteries. These batteries in combination provide a reliable power supply of ±8.4V with 8-12 mn low internal resistance and 30A of maximum continuous discharge.
