The S500 Universal's micro-sized in-ears assure a comfortable fit for any ear size. These in-ears have the smallest dynamic drivers in the world that deliver accurate and detailed sound. The aluminium RHA S500 Universal delivers exciting, immersive audio in addition to unparalleled comfort for any ear size.
The beautiful and detailed engineering, use of premium materials and plethora of accessories are what make this Scottish manufacturer stand out. A well-practised process finally achieves a consistent and high standard product worthy of the RHA name.
The RHA S500 Universal are almost entirely engineered using strong and resilient aerospace grade aluminium. Not only does the aluminium give these earphones a premium finish but also makes them extremely durable even after extensive use.
The S500 Universal was exclusively unveiled at Europe’s biggest consumer electronics trade show, IFA, in Berlin, Germany in September 2015.
RHA's specifically engineered remote is now Universal. Both Android and iOS users can now easily use the one-button remote to take and end calls, play, pause and change tracks (2 clicks to play the next track and 3 clicks to play the previous track) and access digital assistants seamlessly.
Though small in size, the S500 Universal's micro dynamic driver (model 140.1) produces vibrant and full-range sound reproduction without compromise. Engineered for maximum output from within the headphone's diminutive aluminium housings, the 140.1 excels at delivering high-quality sound.
The S500 Universal is designed to fit comfortably and securely inside the ear canal, minimising external noise intrusion in order to produce uninhibited, authentic audio reproduction. The headphone is supplied with seven sets of eartips in a variety of sizes and styles in order to ensure the best noise isolating fit for any ear. These include a selection of dual density and double flange silicone eartips.
Weighing just 14g, the RHA S500's lightweight aluminium body should not be deceived as fragile. They are more sturdy and durable than many other earphones at this price-point. The lightweight build further helps in reducing ear fatigue. Now your long-listening sessions do not have to take a pause.
The S500 Universal's frequency response goes as low as 16Hz and as high as 22Khz (which is even more than the human listening ability), thereby capturing every possible frequency to give a rich and detailed sound.

Here's my review of S500 U after 3 days of use :
S500U are probably the best looking earphone I have ever owned and I have owned earphones from more than a dozen brands. The Aluminum driver house, nylon braided cable, everything looks very well done. But looking good is not an earphone's primary objective, they should sound good too and that's where S500 lags a little bit.
S500U has clearly been streamlined for casual music listeners who listen to music while they commute to work.
It's not balanced. It has a very clear V shaped sound signature.
Bass is plenty but never overpowering. It's not overly powerful or thumpy so, Yes Bassheads should stay away.
Highs i:e Treble can be a little sharp but not piercing, totally fixable with the right EQ settings.
What S500 U lacks are the mids, they are recessed, considerably recessed, enough to ruin some tracks. The Bass and the treble together put the mids and vocals on the backstage. This is where I regret not getting the Byron while they were in stock coz everyone's saying they are well balanced.
Anyway, These are still very bright and lively sounding earphones.
This one is for one who loves Balance sounding headphones. This is not for bassheads. It produced crystal clear vocals.
Great noise isolation and incredible clarity.
I went through the reviews before buying these. And I must say I am impressed. The bass may not be that heavy. But these do provide you with such amazing clarity. There's a little bit of the cable noise. But you can overlook this issue, as RHA provides you such amazing earphones. I am in love with these. Go for it if you're more into clarity.
I had a good experience buying these on Headphonezone - although the earphones were out of stock for a few days, managed to get them eventually. The tracking and delivery were on-point. What impressed me most was how accurate the reviews were - an ordinary listener like me could get a realistic idea of what the product would be like- so my review may seem similar in some aspects. Jumping ahead to the review:
1. Clear sound: these earphones sound super clear; very less cable noise
2. Passive noise isolation: these earphones are small so fit into your ear and hardly allow any external sounds to get in
3. Top build quality: the materials feel premium - both the aluminium main body and the fabric wire.. only downside is the plastic wire from the Y
4. Accessories: comes with lots of pairs of earbuds and a clip, so it’ll fit all ears and needs
5. Has a mic: haven’t tested this as such, but the fact it has one is nice
6. Not bass boosted: can be a pro or con depending on what you listen to but I personally prefer faithful frequency reproduction
1. Narrow soundstage and okayish resolution: this was disappointing - could really feel the difference between this and more expensive earphones in this department ... the resolution isn’t the greatest and one can hear some muzzling, especially in the mids and lows... even the stereo separation isn’t great
2. Soft carry case: the case is a simple mesh cover and won’t protect your equipment against shocks
3. No in line volume control: they could’ve surely included some universal volume controls there - else just having a play/pause - even non-universal ones have those working on all platforms
Other earphones I considered: Beyerdynamic Byron (didn’t buy because it wasn’t compatible with iOS, but maybe should have)
Sennheiser CX 3 (didn’t see great reviews for it anywhere)
Bang and Olufsen Beoplay H3 (too expensive, will wait for a few years to buy this)
I have purchased both the MA390U and the S500U.
The first thing that you'll notice is that the Bass is 20% less than the 390u. The design looks really cool and they are pretty durable and comfortable... Blah blah blah... You guys already know that. Lets just talk about the sound. The sound is balanced and very well detailed with a little bit of pump to the higher frequencies. The bass is present but just not dominant. If the song packs a punch you will for sure feel the thumps. The treble notes are very well detailed and stand out in almost every track with a pure and smooth sweeping flow but sometimes a little bit harsh. RHA claims that the 140.1 driver unit provides full-range detailed audio from every track/genre and I think thats 90% true. I've been hearing that they produce recessed mids but honestly I don't think so. The mids/vocals are very well present, pleasant and detailed in almost every track. Audio manufacturers these days create budget earphones with the same sound signature, boosted bass and recessed highs, I think thats why people like me are having a hard time with the (S500's) Balanced or flat sound signature, we are missing the real deal.
Lastly I would like to say that give them a couple of days of burn-in and also music is a very subjective thing but if you try to be a little bit open minded, you'll discover a lot more!!!❤️❤️❤️😊😊😊🎧🎧🎶🎶
