It has been a couple of weeks using this DAC. I was looking for a DAC with good connectivity options apart from USB. Many DACs today come with only output on a headphone jack which I was not keen on. Using a good quality RCA cable for the analog output was something I needed. I connected this to my main system which comprises components that cost on an average 10 times more than this DAC. It replaced a classic CD player from a well known brand. I have spent the last few months auditioning DACs and disc players from a number of brands and I was wondering if this would live up to my expectations. From the first album I played I was blown away with the clarity and effortless detail that was coming through. I know that the burning is not complete and the sound will continue to improve over the next few months & that is something I am looking forward to. There is a kind of smoothness and brilliant rhythmic ability that I have not heard from many digital sources. In fact this was even comparable to my Pro-Ject turntable in that respect. This is a DAC that has excellent timing and presents sound with high clarity but without excessive treble and the fatigue that it often results in. The only small limitation is that the bass is not the strongest, however it is not so weak that you miss it. Have no doubt - this is a product that is not out of place even when used with components that cost far more. I cannot recommend this highly enough. What Schiit Audio has achieved is stunning. The competition should be very, very worried - I don't know of any other product at this price or even double that even comes close.
After looking for good Dac iam very much confussed which Dac is good for my audio system I reviewed right from audio lab - arcam - Cambridge audio Dac many more high end Dac to low end Dac including tube Dac my preference is the sound should not be ear fatigue so after reviewing Schitt bifrost then I came to know about its little brother Schitt Modi uber2 within my budget so after. My purchase I hooked it my system consisting of Yamaha RX 440 av receiver -pioneer blueray player - last Monitoraudio bronze series 5.1 speakers I played audio through Apple TV AirPlay with my iPad first think after listening word is wow what a transformation for my music after all iam listening too so many years I would definitely recommend Schitt Modi uber 2 for those who wants Kwality music for a budget. I also reviewed from audio sites that this little system Put many high end Dac to shame
I mainly use this dac with my home home audio system . My configuration is Foobar/ASIO(no eq/dsp)>>Marantz PM6005(source direct)>>Wharfedale diamond 230/Sony MDR-1A.
As soon as I hooked this up with my system, first thing I heard was extended highs with amazing clarity and instrument separation, This definitely widens the soundstage. The Bass and Sub Bass is smooth, punchy but this dac is not a warm sounding one rather it stays neutral, Vocals are natural sounding same is the case with highs very natural sounding dac, that's very important for me. I could really appreciate the performance of my speakers with this dac. I have many audio formats like DSD(though I'm not able to directly play DSD, need to play over PCM), Flac, M4a, MP3, and my personal feeling is you need high gears to listen to the difference between uncompressed and compressed songs, and Modi 2 Uber(M2U) beautifully handles wide variety of audio formats, though I feel M2U handles M4a much nicely than MP3, and by handle what I mean is I enjoy M4a songs than MP3(could be because compression coding of M4a is much better than MP3, or could just be placebo effect :P).
All in all as my title says this is probably the best DAC you could get for this price, I initially thought I could just hook up my Fiio X3 II as the DAC, but because of "head fi" someone over there suggested get a dedicated desktop dac and Thanks to that guy, this purchase of M2U really paid off.
and I can't end this review without Thanking "headphonezone" guys, especially Ashan from their team, their professionalism is highly regarded as they truly understand the struggle of Music enthusiasts :), their expectation setting was right on the dot, I was told this would be delivered with an ETA of 3 to 4 weeks and they delivered on their promise, I can't thank them enough for their support with two purchases I did with them.
Uber nice! This is an excellent product, although i have been using it only 3 days now since purchase.
Only downside is its body gets rather hot on operation.
Performance , great !! Would certainly recommend.
