The Schiit Story
The story of Schiit Audio begins with two veteran audiophiles Jason Stoddard, formerly of Sumo, and Mike Moffat, formerly of Theta coming together to shake things up a bit. Both of them have extensive experience in developing lots of audio and A/V products including the Andromeda III, Cobalt 307, DS Pre and Angstrom 200. From power amplifiers, I/V conversion stages, D/A converters, relay-switched stepped attenuator volume controls in preamps to developing the first DTS home theatre surround processor on the market, Schiit Audio has developed a lot of audio products over the years.
Getting into Designing Headphones
Headphones are the need of the hour everyone who likes music uses a headphone. Therefore Schiit Audio moved to develop personal audio equipment while continuing to design a speaker-based system which includes the industry-leading preamps, amps and DACs. So right now Schiit Audio has a plethora of audio products ranging from personal audio to speaker-based systems. Schiit designs affordable audio products that bring happiness in your lives.
True Multibit DACs and Unique Digital Filter
Unlike ordinary DACs that use delta-sigma, NOS (new old stock) D/A chips, multibit chips, high-cost R2R ladders, Schiit uses unique DSP-based closed-form digital filter which improves the sonic performance of the multibit DAC. Therefore the Schiit's multibit technology brings all of it together using the current-production, medical/military grade D/A converters.
Innovation in Analog
Schiit has opted for an innovative approach for the analog side as well. Even the most affordable Schiit headphone amplifier is a miniature, fully discrete, DC coupled, current-feedback power amplifier. Schiit is credited for introducing Continuity output stage to solve the issue of transconductance droop which was common in Class AB amplifier design. Schiit has also developed balanced topologies like Nexus in Ragnarok 2 and a perfect combination of tube and solid-state with Coherence in Lyr 3.
Designed with High-End Materials for Durability
All the Schiit products are designed for solidity and durability. Even the smallest of the products are made of aluminium and steel while the larger products are made of high-end C core transformers, power supply filtering and low-noise control. All the products have to go through severe testing procedures including the latest APx555 audio analyzer and Avermetrics analyzers. Every product from Asgard and up goes through burn-in to address the issues faced during the initial period of usage. Schiit takes care of all the service and support requirements so that you can concentrate on great sound.
Handcrafted in the USA
Schiit believes that local control of all the aspects of production improves the delivering of the product. Therefore all the Schiit products are designed and made in the USA and most of the cost of the components are going to the US-based companies. Assembled in the USA means that Schiit's chassis guys are from San Fernando Valley, Schiit transformers are made in California, Schiit boards come from the east coast of the USA and all the designing, assembling and testing of Schiit products happen in Valencia, California.

At the outset, would like to say a big thanks to Headphone Zone team for such a quick and safe delivery of the unit. It was just a day in between. This has been a seven days session with the DAC since then. I have another Schiit Modi Uber DAC to connect my laptop for digital music and upgraditis bug stings for Multibit and I carried away. This DAC is hooked to laptop through an USB A to B cable (purchased separately) and via Audioquest Jitterbug USB which helps in reducing the machine noise. I must say there has been a profound improvement. Particularly the mid-range has become so lively and deep and coming close to the analogue sound that I enjoy from Technics 1200 MK II turntable and Tube phono. Rest of the system is tube preamp and Sansui AU 717 as power amp with EPOS bookshelf speakers. The sound stage has become more all-encompassing and bass is much more tight. Am expecting the highs to be more rolled off with further burn-in of the DAC. This DAC also has not caused a dent on my wallet too. I know at least three more persons in my town who are satisfied users. So the conclusion is A budget DAC with notable ramp up regarding the quality. Highly recommended.
I would choose this over most/all Delta sigma DACs. It’s solid for the price. Pretty aggressive sounding, bright and slightly fatiguing. Best paired with warmer setups. Still, very very good for the price considering the crap out there being sold for 5x its price. Nevertheless, I prefer NOS/True R2R DACs to Modi Multibit and those can often be had for much much less than this if you import from outside. Nevertheless, this is a solid product with very good sound, solid build and solid warranty. Easily worth the asking price, just not the single most VFM product available on the planet. I would give that award to Nobsound NOS DAC TDA1387. Costa 40 bucks at AliExpress. And sounds better than Mimby. However, I would still rate Mimby 5 stars because it’s pretty subjective which of the two you’d choose.
Its been almost 10days since I have received this little gem. Woow.. it's real eargasm. What an experience. Just mind blowing. Paired it with DIY Sapphire amp hooked it with PC and tired it with all different cans - El8, modded 6xx, HD540 & DT990 pro. Tried with both USB and Coax (coax was ever so slightly clean) With everything music suddenly turned out to so clean and neutral. Sound stage has improved a lot. The layering / timbre everything is super. The bass is tight. Imaging is as it should be almost precise and intimate. The mids are so juicy. It has made me fall in love with music all over again. It just blew my present go to dac/amp mojo out of water. Overall sound signature is so nice and analog type. It just brings out the music as is with real faithfulness. This is I think the best R2R DAC out there at this price point.
Thanks HPZ team & Raghav for the fast delivery and big hurrah for stocking this at very reasonable price.
It has been a month that I have been using this little gem and I think it’s time for me to write a meaningful review. First, a thumbs up to the Headphone Zone team for helping me with the purchase and a lightning fast delivery. I am currently using the Modi MB with two sources and it feeds a Marantz PM 6004 Amp with Wharfedale Diamond 10.5 speakers. The first source is a Marantz UD5005 universal disk player through coaxial input. The UD 5005 itself has quite a decent DAC and I was in two minds on whether the MB would have any audible enhancement to the music. Well, after a burn in of about 20-30 hours, I must admit I can hear real improvements. The soundstage is much wider and the overall presentation is tighter with a much improved mid which suited me quite well with the genre of music that I listen to. The second source that I use is a Raspberry Pi running Volumio through USB. My music is a mix of FLAC and 320kbps Mp3/Aac. This is where the MB shines. My previous rig was either to hook up my Fiio X1 to analog inputs directly on the PM6004 or the Marantz AVR NR1606. Since the X1 does not have a digital output it was using its own internal DAC. The difference is day and night. I play analog (vinyl and cassettes) more than I do digital and I must say the resultant sound is quite to my liking not just because of the resolution and clarity but the overall sound signature which has that tightness of analog sound. The music is clear without being analytical. It just shines in all departments. I have also hooked it up with a Fiio headphone amp and used it with a Shure SRH440 and an Audio Technica ATH AD700 and this is really where I think it was the best. I am sure it will be exceptional with a better combination of HP amp and cans. Overall the Schiit Modi MB is very neutral and faithfully brings out details of sound to make it music worth listening to.
Hello Shiladitya, thank you for shopping in our store. We value your encouragement and glad that you liked them. Please do visit us again soon. :)
Excellent DAC, used with Denon and NAD. very clean sound.
Thank you sharing your review with us.
I have been using the modi multibit for quite some time now. I use with a Denon DNP 720 Network player , marantz PM6004 amplifier and Usher S520 bookshelves. I however do not use MP3 or any other lossy format. i only use FLAC and due to the source being uncompressed, i guess the multibit actually shined. The sound is definitely more improved and much more detailed. The neutrality is also a big plus point. overall, a fine buy.
What an incredible experience! Coupled with Swans M50W 2.1 Set up, this external dac provides a sensational musical experience. It will blow out of water any internal sound card or dac at this price point. The low end is punchy, the highs are smooth, but the biggest surprise is the mids. It can hardly be described over a review, so you have to check it out for yourself.
A big thank you to Headphone Zone Team / Raghav for making Schiit available in India. Much appreciated. It will be great if you could extend the venture to bookshelf speakers as well.
