RETURN OF THE LEGENDARY OLINA IN A NEW AVATAR

Tripowin X HBB Olina was a collaborative initiative that became an instant hit with music lovers all around the globe. HBB (Hawaiian Bad Boy from "Bad Guy Good Audio Reviews") created an acoustic sound signature for the Olina that is well-balanced, lucid, and pleasing using his years of experience and sizable IEM frequency measurement database. HBB has changed the tuning for the Olina Special Edition release to improve Olina's sound and take into account new information from his research on audio tuning. The Olina SE builds on the tradition of the original Olina with a refined sound and a modern, streamlined design.

FEATURES A 10MM CNT DRIVER THAT DELIVERS BREATHTAKING SONIC PERFORMANCE

The Carbon Nanotube (CNT) dynamic driver used in the original Olina has been "upgraded" for use in the Olina SE. It features a second-generation 10mm CNT dynamic driver. The diaphragm structure of this 10mm driver has been strengthened, particularly at the suspension edges, which raises surface membrane tension and speeds up driver response. The driver can produce a dynamic range of 10Hz to 40kHz for a Hi-Fi listening experience. The "Olina SE," in all its glory, delivers a breathtaking sonic performance.

AN EVOLUTIONARY UPGRADE WITH A MORE BALANCED TONAL SIGNATURE

The enhancement in tuning is the main change for the Olina SE. Compared to the Olina original, the Olina SE's redesigned CNT driver provides a "stronger" sub-bass impact, as indicated by a 3dB increase at 10Hz. This upgrade considerably reduces sub-bass roll-off and enables a punchier and more muscular sub-bass response. The treble of the Olina SE has also been "dampened" to eliminate peakiness in the vocal and upper harmonic frequencies. Comparatively speaking, this has a more organic treble response than the original Olina. In contrast to the original Olina, you will notice greater evenness in the upper frequencies with no loss of detail retrieval.

ALL ALUMINIUM HOUSING WITH A NEW AND UNIQUE LOGO FUSED WITH HIGH-PURITY OFC CABLE

The Olina SE is characterised by a new and unique logo reflective of HBB’s Hawaiian roots. This design has been etched directly into an aluminium faceplate that now matches the aluminium shell. The entire aluminium housing is anodised in a sleek black resistant to scratches. The Olina SE comes standard with a detachable 0.78mm 2-pin cable. A 4-core oxygen-free OCC copper was selected as the cable material due to its high purity and electrical conductivity, which reflects in the audio as a more translucent and clean sound. The cable terminates in a 3.5mm single-ended plug.

Wide and Bombastic

The Tripowin Olina SE
Pros:
Perfect tuning
Wide soundstage
Precise lazer-like imaging
INSANE Dynamic Range performance
Crispy details

Cons
Not for intimate listening (like I do with my Etymotic ER3se)
Very little noise isolation

I mostly listen to Bach, Mozart, Tchaikovsky and Vivaldi. These are easily able to keep up with the dynamic range of the insanity that goes on in Classical compositions (especially Baroque era).
Sadly no one is giving these the credit they require with dynamic range performance.

Best value under 10k

For context I have owned Aria, Kato, OH10, S12, Honeydew, Timeless, and ER2XR.

The Olina has the best soundstage and imaging among those. Details are on par with the Kato and I personally prefer single DD over Planars.

On the downside the note weight is relatively thin and the extra width to the soundstage makes everything spaced out which sometimes make rock and metal songs that have a 'wall of sound' production sound less impactful. It is something that the Kato does well with its more intimate stage and warmth.

The cable provided is the worst one that I have used. It's an ok cable in terms of usability but it feels cheap, like a rope that you use to hang clothes for drying.

We're really happy that you have such great thoughts about the product and thanks for the amazing review!

A Step Ahead

Having tried Aria, OG Olina, Titan S and Dioko. Olina SE sounds like the perfect balance of everything good you can have in this price segment. Aria has lots of Bass but can lack details and sound muddy at times. Titan S is clean and detailed but might lack bass and gets shouty sometimes. Olina has great soundstage and imaging even a smidge better than the SE but Upper mids get very aggressive and guitars become unlistenable. Dioko has great mids but lacks any sort of engagement(still a good set for classical). Olina SE fixes the Upper mids of Olina and improves the bass while still keeping the clean bright signature of this set afloat. Olina SE here renders bass better than Aria and Vocals even more engaging than Titan S. Vocals on this set are an absolute joy to listen to. If I had to rec' a set under 10k Olina SE tops the list interestingly while OG Olina would be at 2nd last above Dioko. The slight tuning changes make a world of difference for me. The SE is more than worth the price.

We really appreciate the genuine feedback, we'll share your thoughts with the brand as well!

The best tuning under 10k

Build -
Full metal body, lighter than it seems, decent cable, can be a little big for some people. The iems come with a very nice carrying box and spare eartips as well as filters

Sound Signature -
Excellent tuning, a little bit of warmth and very vocal forward. Treble is smooth and doesn't cause any fatigue. Great for almost every genre of music (not for bassheads however)

Technicalities -
Wide soundstage, has some depth and height, some of the best instrument seperation at this price point. It's great for orchestral music as well as live albums. Imaging is also very good for gaming or anything that requires surround audio

Concerns -
- Might not be the best fit for some people, fit is pretty good for me
- Not the best resolution at this price considering planar iems like dioko and stellaris exist at this price, however none of them even come close to having tone and timbre as accurate as the olina se

Thanks a lot for your detailed and genuine feedback, we're glad that you have such positive thoughts about the product and we'll share your thoughts with the brand as well. It'll also help our fellow customers to make the right choice!

Not as good as expected

Compared to Blon bl03, this is not much better at more than 4 times the price. if I hear them on different days, I don't feel like I am missing much. But blon's bass is better, I do miss that when hearing to this. If we do A/B test olina does feel more balanced, but at this price I feel like it doesn't worth it
