The best i have heard so far..

This is my first foray into hi-fi after spending some time in mid-fi purgatory. I am using it with Schiit Gungnir multibit A2 DAC connected to a tower PC via Audioquest Forest USB and upgraded Mogami power cables from HifiMart. Tube amps were ruled out because of practical reasons, and of the limited solid-state options available i ended up with this one, not really knowing what to expect.
This amp is a significant step up in performance and refinement over the the mid-fi amps that i have tried: various DAPs, Schiit Jotunheim v1, Topping A90 and Schiit Lyr3. My preference is for a mostly neutral sound with a slight downslope in the treble and realistic timbre and tonality. Top tier technicalities don't matter to me if the sound isn't natural/realistic. The only drawbacks that i can think of is that it's not very punchy/slam-y, no tube magic, and not class leading in timbre and sound-stage depth/forwardness (although pretty holographic). But otherwise the pairing with the Schiit Gumby works very well. The "pre-gain" is interesting in that it doesn't significantly alter the sound like high/low gain did on my mid-fi amps. My current headphones HD650 and ZMF Eikon sound great out of the balanced output (using HeadGearAudio Athena Silver cable). LCD-X, as expected, also works very well. Sennheiser HD800S on the other hand is _not_ a good pairing with this amp. (the Schiit Lyr3 hybrid-tube amp which i had for a short while sounded right with the HD800S but at the expense of technical performance.) Audeze LCD-XC is another one that doesn't work with this amp - very impressive technically but sounded rubbish to my ears. HD600 also didn't work for me as it has a graininess in the sound and claustrophobic in-your-face sound stage (worse than HD650) that this amp doesn't alleviate. HD650 is my favourite.

I think the pricing is a bit steep for this amp. Prospective buyers should definitely consider tube amps. If i had to buy an amp today then i would consider the Schiit Lyr+ or Mjonir3 for less money. I wish Headphonezone also offered the Violectric V222. Ultimately, system synergy and setup is what really matters, and if you want great sound then expect to do a good amount of research, sound demos and experimentation.(SuperBestAudioFriends forum is an excellent source of info.)
