Customer Reviews
So I have been daily driving these for the last 6 months, I have produced, mixed and mastered multiple releases on these so far and these have absolutely transformed the way I work and approach my projects. Audeze were not joking with that Manny Marroquin name on it!
Let’s get one thing out of the way, these are aimed at professional musicians and engineers hence they might sound a tad “Bland” or “Flat” in comparison to other options in the price range but there is plenty of fun to be had here so here goes :-
Sound Signature -
MM-500’s have a fairly warm neutral structure through the overall spectrum - They’re well versed into the mids with a solid balance through 6kHz with a slight bump at 3kHz which is noticeable at higher volumes if you have treble sensitive ears but never to a point of annoyance.
The low end works wonderfully and given their planar magnetic nature they can go fairly low. They are still a tad bit rolled off in the deep sub region but they have absolutely gorgeous mid bass quality. The low end is a lot more “Quality over Quantity” on these, you might miss a bit of “smack” on/around 60 -100 but it’s accurate and that’s really what is expected here.
The mid range is where these shine and as Colt Capperrune says “The Magic is in the midrange” - these have an absolutely gorgeous midrange that does take a bit of time getting used to but once you do you’re gonna have a field day with gorgeous thick mid range reproduction that let’s that 1kHz to 4kHz region shine like nothing else, it’s precise, fast and rolls into the high end like butter which takes us to the Highs -
Now these took a while for me to get as they don’t get super bright (atleast not at my working volumes) they have a very buttery warm’esc high end but it really extends so your highend clutter will be caught rather quickly.
My overall mix judgement is that if your music sounds great on these then it’ll translate on pretty much any system because these are so transparent that you will really hear your mistakes where needed.
Soundstage and Imaging
I have been a long time Sennheiser HD series user so a narrow soundstage is nothing new and these too do not spread as wide as something like the DT1990 or the Arya/Arya Organic but the imaging is absolutely splendid - You will hear everything coming from the exact place it’s intended to.
Comfort/Build -
Now yes Audeze headphones are heavy and yes that seemed like a problem area initially but I have gotten used to them and they are much lighter than their entire lineup, I wear these every day and sometimes for upto 10 hours and I don’t mind them now. The ear cups are deep and I have big ears yet the pads cover them nicely and it gets quite comfortable in there. They’re all metal and feel substantial in your hands (and on your head) and they come with a gorgeous cable and mini XLR connectors.
Now for some cons/things I don’t enjoy
- They are pretty huge which could be an issue for people with smaller heads
- I do wish the overall soundstage was a tad bit wider
- They definitely are heavier than your usual pair of “Studio” headphones
- I do wish we got a better carrying case (I mean the suitcase is great but I am not carrying that unless I am on a plane haha)
- Mother of god they are expensive
Overall Verdict -
The MM-500’s are a big investment but if you know your purpose and what the purpose of these headphones is then it’s worth every penny.
I run mine through an Universal Audio Apollo X6 on the daily but I have tried them with an Apogee Symphony Desktop interface, Apollo Twin X, RME Fireface and a these run sweetly on everything. Oh and they’re great through an iPhone too!
My workflow has improved because of how well these translate. These might not be your most “Fun” option but they get the job done.

I'm very impressed with how these headphones sound. They are neutral and resolving but still produce beautiful, highly engaging sound. Not very difficult to drive. I've been using them with my A&K SE-300 and Fiio M17 and they pair well with SE-300 (R2R)
