DAC Chip
You may not even realise it, but most of us use a digital-to-analogue converter (commonly known as a DAC) daily. Built into your computers, tablets and smartphones, a DAC is fundamental to unlocking the convenience of digital music. Any device that acts as a digital sound source will need a DAC to convert digital audio to analog. A DAC converts the digital information stored in “0s and 1s” into an analog signal that's passed to speakers or headphones and ultimately our ear. In short, DACs play a large part in making digital music hearable.

While this technical process is undoubtedly impressive, the DAC embedded into your smartphones or laptops is nowhere good enough to listen to your favourite music recordings in high quality. So, if you want to listen to music in high quality, an external DAC is essential to allow headphones or speakers to perform at their potential. An external DAC, first and foremost, will improve audio quality dramatically.

Pair with Laptop via USB

A majority of people use a laptop as the primary source device to listen to music or watch movies. Since the laptop is an essential part of the audio chain there are headphones and devices designed to work a laptop or computer system flawlessly. With the availability of USB connectivity, it becomes easier to pair various devices like an Amp, DAC or even headphones without worrying about drivers or any additional piece of software.

The Chord Mojo 2 is the best portable DAC anywhere. Having used the Mojo 1 for many years myself, I didn't think that Chord could do any better - but the Mojo 2 is instantly better in so many ways. I use it with literally every headphone and IEM I own. And they sound fuller, more detailed, more revealing and more fun. I can't recommend it enough.

a device which turns desktop headphone setups to dust

(1) vocals sound uncannily "relaxed" and real (2) instruments have clearer reverb trail (3) sound is lot more holographic due to exceptional depth perception (4) need not to worry about poor and bright recordings because sound has no sibilance or brightness (5) music has unbelievable timing perception drawing you into instant foot tapping (6) has ample output even for high impedance headphones like hd600, hd650, hd800, r70x, dt 880 600 ohm, sufficient output even at orange color. (7) "lossless" bass-treble eq with shelf eq at unprecedented 140 bit processing for tailoring the sound for almost every headphones. (8) like other chord dacs there is no sperate head amp stage, only dac out put stage with in built digital volume control in fpga makes the headphone listen more transparent, so one does not need expensive boutique dacs like bartok, vivaldi, holo may or rokna wave dream, and amps like headtrips, vioelectrics, woo audios or bursons. this single device beats them all at 1/10 th or even 1/20 th price, it is so so musically transparent and enjoyable. buy one asap and save on expensive dac and head amps.

Hi there, we are so happy you took out time & elaborately reviewed the product with a comparison. We are sure this will help our customers to make an even better & informed decision.

Not exactly upto the hype

It is claimed as a revolution and high up step from other dac. But my old dac with right software in pc gives much better sound plus virtual sound staging which is missing in this . Crossfade not much effective here. Also connecting ports don’t give much confidence.

miracle dac

this dac can beat many $k dacs and headphone amps for super ultra refinement and extreme fine details. it separates even the tiniest strands of music and vocals and present to you in a cohesive manner. details and refinement generally two difficult to go together properties, this dac achieves perfectly. don't use any headphone amp with it until unless you have very power hungry headphones. this can drive almost every headphone with plenty of punch and power. beware you may tend to listen at very high volumes with this dac due to non existent sibilance and brightness. buy one ASAP and enjoy all genres of music while on move or in the comfort of your home as it may even better your uber ultra expensive desktop set up.

Hey there, nothing makes us happier than knowing you loved your purchase, hope you had a comfortable shopping experience & thank you for the great review & ratings!

Kuch to hua hai, Kuch ho gaya hai

I have always been sceptical of a DAC's ability to affect quality of sound. Previously, I have used an Audioquest Dragonfly, a Topping E30/L30 stack, and a FIIO Q1 Mark II, and could not notice a difference in sound with any of those. The problem is that I have very good headphones/IEMs and very good hi-res music sources. However, I have been following the cult following around the Mojo for over 5 years now, from a lot of people I do find credible. When Mojo 2 was launched last year, I resisted as much as I could because of the significant investment, but finally gave in after reading a review by a consumer saying that even if you have an Astell & Kern DAP, the Mojo 2 would make it sound better. There it is, I thought, and gave in. The product itself is a thing of quirky beauty, solid and smooth. This entire last week I have been listening to my music collection and AB testing with and without the DAC using all the headphones and IEMs I have. I used DT770 Pro, the HD599, ATH-R70x, Meze 99, Etymotic ER2, 7HZ Legato, iBasso IT00. Played hi res FLAC files on a good DAP. For the life of me, I can't figure out any difference between the sound. Yes, the hungry headphones do get louder, but that is about it. I am not trying to be contrarian, I desperately want it to do something - since I spent my own money on this, and quite a lot of it. Maybe my ears are not audiophile enough, or maybe I find stockholm syndrome somewhere along the way, but right now, I have gone back to feeding headphones directly throgh the DAP. Woe is me.

Bang for the Buck

Lets get this outof way, this is a bang for buck dac amp. Why?
1. Performs at nearly 80% of what Qutest does and at half price
2. Had equalization that I was looking for. The only other DAC/AMP that has quality equalization is RME ADI 2 FS but at more than 2 times the price.
3. Compared to my Zen Stack, that I love, this has more neutral presentation. The zen is warmer and adds too much color to warm headphones like my classic Meze99. Single piece solution.
4. Crossfeed feature is not snakeoil. It does widen the soundstage. However not all headphones would sound good with this feature turned on. Only more expensive DAC/AMP have this feature.
5. Current price is the same as what is sold in the UK. Amazing! Thanks HPZ, you rock!
Overall Impression
1. Layering and separation of instruments is like sohanpapdi. You can make out the distinction very clearly. Compared to my Audiolab DAC, this is a bit ahead. Listening to the soundtrack of Jodha Akbar (Azeem O Shaan),Opening stanza...I could hear the individual singers in the chorus. In fact one of the of singer sings in a slightly different key as others. This was a revelation to me.
2. Same Album, next Song - Inn Lamhon Ke Daaman Mein - The lead singers also sings with the chorus. This I could make it out only when I heard this song on the Mojo2.
3. Compared to my R2R DAC - I like the R2R for its analogish sound. This remains unsurpassed. However the details is what R2R fall behind. Mojo2 gives details without any digital glare.
4. Give the Mojo about 30 min before listening. The treble is sharp in the first 30 min of the operation.
5. Small form factor which is as big as my palm. I could thus carry this with me in case of need. Bye Bye Dragonfly black and apple dongle dac.
6. Integrates with my 2 channel stereo via Opt and hence a desktop option as well. Have not had time to listen and hence cannot post any feedback.
Shortcomings
1. I could not figure how to connect to my CD transport over Coax. Not a shortcoming perse as this has a coax 3.5 mm but not sure if such cable is available. In the hunt now.
2. Micro USB, even in 2022!! Saving grace USB C
3. Have to read the manual first before operating. Not difficult, but still!
4. Mojo 2 has two 3.5 mm audio out receptacles. Any change to vol effects both. Hence, if you have set a volume for a headphone with higher ohmage, before inserting iems, do ensure that the gain is set at low. Else both the iem and the ear would be blasted! Rather than having two 3.5 mm headphone output, Chord could have been designated one to iem (low gain) and the other to headphone (high gain).
5. No RCA out. Have use 3.5mm to RCA cable.
Overall, I am enjoying and exploring my mojo2.
Thanks for reading!

Wow! We really appreciate the accuracy and genuineness that is showcased in this feedback and we're glad that you liked the Mojo 2
