Open-Back Design

Headphones with an open-back design, allow air to pass through the earcups. This means that Open-Backs do not block any noise from around you, as closed-backs do, and music being heard will also leak outside to people around you. So they can only be heard in a quiet environment.

However, Open-back headphones do sound more natural and open. Open-back headphones create a feeling of space, presenting audio as if you are sitting at a live concert. Audiophiles swear by open-back headphones, and they sound quite different to closed-backs.

These headphones are perfect for critical listening sessions, mixing and mastering music. They have an accurate soundstage presentation and precise imaging.

Grado Labs was founded by Joseph Grado (1924-2015) in 1953 in Brooklyn. Over the past 61 years, Grado has become famous for its line-up of headphones and phono cartridge designs. Through a well-heard history and deep roots in Brooklyn, the Grado family has had an unrelenting focus on audio quality. For three generations, tradition and heritage have been carried down with the philosophy that sound comes first. The first of its kind, "Hemp" finds a new purpose in the Hemp Headphone. A Limited Edition Grado Hemp has an impressive and precise sound. The Grado Hemp offers a fantastic, rich, lively sound that will satisfy even the most discerning audiophiles. An open-air headphone with exceptional imaging and soundstage characteristics is the Grado Hemp.

The engineers at Grado Labs have designed and tuned the "Hemp" to provide exceptional audio reproduction without sacrificing the details. The Grado Hemp maintains a good balance with the low, mid, and high frequencies allowing you to experience the best possible natural sound. The Grado Hemp has an expansive soundstage due to its open-air design. The imaging on the "Hemp" is spectacular; You will be able to place and get a good sense of the instruments and vocal separation. These headphones, for use in the home or on the move, perfectly illustrate Grado's refusal to compromise, finished with a touch of finesse. The Grado Hemp features next-generation de-stressed dynamic speaker drivers that deliver spectacular sound. Sound reproduction is accurate with a linear frequency response that extends from 13Hz to 28kHz. These full-range "dynamic" drivers are a Grado Labs exclusive and the result of more than 61 years of audio technology innovation. Whether at home or connected to an audiophile player or an amplifier, Grad Hemp delivers excellent performance to ensure a great listening experience. These headphones reveal new notes and details in songs; that you have heard hundreds of times. The Hemp Headphone is a slow burn, constantly getting better with every listen. Engineers at Grado Labs; make sure that the "Hemp" has their Grado signature sound, working in tandem with the hemp and maple. Experience pure sonic bliss with the all-new Grado Hemp.

Grado Labs has always made an effort to innovate with their headphones by utilising various materials that enhance; their aesthetic appeal and affect how the sound is reproduced. With the Grado Hemp, the engineers have included maple into the housing. The hypothesis was to achieve a reduction in density without change in dynamic modulus of elasticity to obtain a sound radiation coefficient. Engineers at Grado Labs had the chance to construct using "Hemp" as part of their never-ending experimentation with various types of woods and materials. The Grado "Hemp" is one of the best-sounding Limited Editions Grado has assembled. The highly compressed hemp creates a damping effect between its fibres. This design produces a fuller sound, consisting of a noticeable low end and a top end that extends smoothly to its limits. The hemp may be doing the heavy lifting, but the hemphone is a joint effort. Engineers at Grado placed maple into the housing to help balance the sound and bring out the sonic properties maple can produce. It was necessary to tune the Grado drivers in the Hemp housings for a material that Grado had never worked with before. Being paired with maple gave them some foresight, but only through trial-and-error could Grado engineers get the speakers to sound how they wanted and bring out the potential of the "Hemp."

Every feature of the Grado Hemp has been chosen to complement the new drivers and provide an immersive listening experience. Grado Hemp hosts a new cable that combines an eight-conductor configuration and a thicker jacket to allow Hi-Fidelity audio transmission. You won't lose out on the subtle elements in your music since this new cable provides accurate, pure signal transfer. The new headband has been enhanced with extra padding to provide optimum comfort and wearing experience. The revised headband of the Grado Hemp enhances the listening experience and allows for prolonged use without wearing you out.

The team at Grado takes no sidestep when it comes to crafting their headphones. The same is the case with the "Hemp," hand-assembled by Grado's team in Brooklyn. This headphone goes from workbench to workbench until they are ready for your ears. Every experience Grado has had since they first began creating in 1953 on a kitchen table has contributed to the development of "Hemp." The Grado team can maintain high-quality standards with every pair of headphones thanks to the handcrafting process. When you consider the journey of these headphones, they are a work of beauty. To get you started, the Hemp comes bundled with a 3.5mm (mini) termination with a 1/4" adapter for easy compatibility and connectivity.
