UNCOMPROMISED SOUND QUALITY WITH TWO ES9219C AND XMOS XUF208 CHIPS
The core of the FiiO BTR5 2021 has been renewed with two ESS SABRE ES9219C DAC chips with better decoding performance than the previous generation, a higher signal-to-noise ratio, and lower power consumption. To further solidify the audio architecture the BTR5 2021 has utilised an XMOS XUF208 control chip. With this chip, the BTR5 2021 is capable of asynchronous audio decoding and can decode up to 384kHz sampling rate and native DSD in USB2.0 and Asynchronous USB DAC supports 384kHz sampling rate and DSD256 natively.
EFFICIENT POWER MANAGEMENT WITH QUALCOMM CSRS8675 CHIP

FPGA CLOCK AND DUAL CRYSTAL OSCILLATOR OFFERING HIGH-FIDELITY AUDIO
FiiO BTR5 2021 comes embedded with a precision FPGA clock and this is responsible for the transmission and reception of Bluetooth and USB digital audio signals as well as clock management. In the BTR5 2021, after the Bluetooth signal is processed through the FPGA, jitter is reduced and signal stability is improved, completely solving the problem of different clock rates between the different components. With the addition of a dedicated FPGA, the 45.1584/49.152MHz dual crystal oscillators can more accurately reproduce audio signals under various sampling rates during Bluetooth and USB decoding.

Woww is the word for it's sound signature, my most favourite kind
Perfect lows and mids but it's like a king in highs...the highs were smooth and I feel like never heard before....my pre dacs are fiio k1 , Odyssey HD, Ak XB10 , shanling UA2 and I will say very firmly FIIO BTR5 sounds better than all... especially it's sounds better than wired Shanling UA2!!!! Definitely it's worth more than what you pay , it can be used also like usb Dac
My fiio FD1 and Tripowin Mele sounds much better now both highs were sound harsh with other Dacs now ., Especially in some social media i trashed Mele , this dac completely changed my opinion .
Only CON - BT range is not that great , you can't walk around your house , jus because of that cutting 1 star..but it's undoubtedly awesome sounding Dac

See i am just talking with respect to sound quality only afterall we are purchasing for the same. This offers very less sound quality than wired.
My devices asus laptop, iphone , ipad with 3.5 mm jack. Oneplus phone. Kz zns pro x , oppo enco m31
Cons.
1) no difference while yoousing as external dac for laptop in sound clarity, spacial seperation etc. it just increases volume level which you wont do as your ears will bleed.
2) wireless ldac support for oneplus phone feels nice yet you can get same quality in oppo enco m31. Rather you have to carry less gadgets in your pocket with oppo. It doesn’t improve much yet pay more, carry more. Feels like weard
3 ) direct wired with ipad vs wireless btr5…. Pathetic wired sound was mindfull btr 5 sounds like lossy. I felt like I would rather move around holding my ipad with wired plugged in.
4) app was nice you can control the device.
But its just making your life complex.
Pros
Glossy look lokks good untill broken.
You can hold untill it gets wet. ( no water proffing)
Buttons are handy
See i am basically audiophile.
Genuinely i am saying don’t go for it.
Go for a good quality iem instead. And have a basic Bluetooth tws. At the end that is what you get from buying this also.
Don’t complicate things in your life keep it simple.
I don’t know why it has so many positive ratings.
If you are looking for something on the go, by all means, let me save you some time and go for it eyes closed. It sounds pretty amazing and the Fiio app works pretty well on phone. I do not think there is anything that's even close to this in its price range.
Coming to the annoying part: If you are someone who wants to use it wired too, well, I encourage you to get a standalone desktop DAC or at the least, look for another brand.
The driver support by Fiio is pathetic. Not just this, I also own the Q1 Mark II and there were quite a few problems occasionally when using with a laptop. Syncing with the system is pretty quick but you will have a real hard time figuring out and troubleshooting this thing for clean playback. Tip: Ditch the drivers and use it driverless unless you absolutely need to use the ASIO functions. There are occasional skips, stutters, pops and weird behavior when using high sampling rates as a USB DAC indicating input and output mismatches and this will probably make you feel better off using it in the wireless mode with your laptop unless you like restarting this thing every few minutes. I confirmed this with 2 systems and I got the same results and unfortunately, I am stuck with it right now.
Coming from the support side from headphonezone, this review is definitely not indicative of their support since their team is pretty awesome. Shipping was lightning fast and their support team and headphone-guru squad is pretty responsive and knowledgeable and will be really happy to guide you. Its just a bad experience from my side for this product which is totally on Fiio. I really hope they fix it and get their shit together.
About FiiO BTR5 2021:
After a long research I bought the FiiO BTR5 2021. Great sound quality, nice features and amazing build quality. I heard about FiiO brand earlier but this is my first purchase.
Pros:
- Very nice audio quality, using with my FiiO FH1s IEMs and OnePlus 7T mobile
- Accompanying app is useful
- Advantage of using it as Bluetooth and wired DAC
- Single ended and Balanced output for audiophile convenience
- Little display is useful
Cons:
- Battery life is not that great, reduces drastically from 100% to 80% and to 40% very fast. (80% to 40% directly)
- For the price they should have at least provided a carry case.
