Flat Sound Signature

A Flat sound signature offers an accurate presentation of sounds without adding colour to your music. Simply put, this sound signature presents audio without boosting any frequencies. As a result, it’s the most natural-sounding signature and provides the closest reproduction of how a track was recorded and produced. Due to their accurate sound reproduction, flat sound signature headphones are preferred by Music professionals, Sound Engineers and used in professional studios for mixing and mastering music tracks and are also loved by audiophiles for immersive listening sessions. You can listen to Classical, Rock, Jazz, Blues, Folk & possibly every genre in music.

Ideal for
Indoor Use

For Studio & Professionals

As the name implies, anything branded as studio headphones is designed especially for a studio setting with a particular focus on accuracy and transparency for monitoring and mixing.

These headphones present an accurate image of your music than ordinary headphones, allowing you to hear every nuance and aspect of your music. Therefore, having a good set of studio headphones is just as important as any other gear in your studio.

These headphones provide a fresh perspective to that mix you’ve spent hours mastering and recording, essentially giving you another set of ears.

Planar Magnetic Drivers

Planar magnetic drivers combine characteristics of several driver types. They employ magnetic fields akin to dynamic and balanced armature drivers. However, planar magnetic drivers, like electrostatic drivers, use a flat, thin diaphragm in contrast to a coil. The planar drivers are known for their quick transient response.

Replaceable Cables

A pair of headphones with a replaceable cable has many benefits, and one of them is if the connecting cable has a problem, it doesn’t mean that you have to buy a new one. If the connecting cable gets pulled or damaged, you can replace it and keep using your good-old headphones or IEMs. This way, your headphones will be protected and will last longer. With the advancements in cable manufacturing, you now get a variety of replacement cables with various termination options, lengths and quality.

Open-Back Design

Headphones with an open-back design, allow air to pass through the earcups. This means that Open-Backs do not block any noise from around you, as closed-backs do, and music being heard will also leak outside to people around you. So they can only be heard in a quiet environment.

However, Open-back headphones do sound more natural and open. Open-back headphones create a feeling of space, presenting audio as if you are sitting at a live concert. Audiophiles swear by open-back headphones, and they sound quite different to closed-backs.

These headphones are perfect for critical listening sessions, mixing and mastering music. They have an accurate soundstage presentation and precise imaging.

Needs Amplification

Headphones and IEMs require a certain level of power to sound their best and work at their full potential. When your headphones or IEMs are underpowered, they can sound thin or muffled.

Amplifiers are required to provide adequate power to your headphone or IEMs to perform at their best. Simply put, amplifiers allow a weak audio signal to be boosted to a powerful one.

To put it into perspective, devices such as your phones and laptops come with an amplifier, but they offer very limited output power. This output may not be sufficient to power headphones and IEMs to shine at their best. This is where a dedicated amplifier is required to deliver adequate power to hear your music in all its glory.

A nice alternative to LCD-3

I have this and the LCD-3, as well as the HD800. All are very different. Although I enjoy the LCD-3's sound a lot and it's in some respects (eg handling complex passages with clarity) better than the LCD-X, the LCD-X presents music in quite a different way and can be a more exciting listen. Bass often has more impact, treble more sparkle and the sound is a touch airier than the LCD-3. The LCD-X is still nowhere near the HD800 in terms of imaging, soundstage and sense of detail, but it's a nice half-way point between a relaxed sounding headphone (LCD-3) and a brighter more obviously detailed one (HD800). And they are leagues ahead of the EL-8 (open back) that they replaced.

Music Joy 2.0

Though I have been tripping on & discovering new music almost all my life, I entered the world of “hi-end Headphone Audio” via the Audeze Sine 3+ years ago. Pairied with the Chord Mojo it was a new dimension of music experience for me. I had tasted blood and kept looking for the next “audio high”.
Because I was back into rediscovering Modern Jazz (especially ECM) combined with the Aha of MQA (Tidal Masters) with my first Open Back headphones - the Sennheiser HD650 2 years ago. I loved this new high. Then things changed again. Basically went deep into a genre I had never explored before. Techno. Not EDM. Not House. I was hooked. (It’s been 18 months since ) and I realized I needed a new Audio equipment partner on this fascinating journey. My gear didn’t seem to cut it and kept looking out. Finally I managed to head to HPZ for a product demo of the LCD-X which was recommended by Salim. I had gone to choose between some iEMS basis my online research but on listening to the Xs everything changed. It “introduced” me to Techno in ways I could not imagine. Deep Sharp clear Bass. Everything well arranged giving me the opportunity to enjoy tracks I had heard many times in whole new ways. I am glad I bit the bullet and ordered them. The biggest bonus : ALL other fav genres came to life. Jazz, Avant Garde Jazz, DeutscheRap, Dancehall, Roots Rock Reggae, Grime, Hip Hop, AfroHouse. Classic Rock, Rock. Wow. I normally am not into music with vocals but I started loving them with these (eg Jazz). Reality check :
Just to test out the online reviews which said it’s Achille’s heel was Heavy Metal - especially the attacking Guitar sections. I too noticed that this was not the strength of these cans. But I was more than happy that it transformed my Metallica, GNR. So I got far far more than I asked for. As I “burn” through these (it’s been a week ) I am convinced that I have found my new partner & even my initial apprehension of their size and weight are non issues !

Thanks a ton for sharing your elaborate review with us.

Music producers/Mix engineers dream

Simply the best piece of gear I have bought in the last 3 years. Really reveals all the flaws in your productions! Dealing with SO much detail can move your mixing focus from macro to micro, but once you spend time with these headphones and pair it with something like Reference 4 from Sonarworks - your mixes will translate like never before! Essentially a near perfect mix room in your backpack!

Value for money is not something you seek in this price range. But then I guess, you just seek ju...

To start with, the cans are huge and comfortably clasped my ears without causing any discomfort for the half an hour listening I subjected them to. A look at the cans and you know where they belong to...a sound studio!

The company has surely made them for indoor use and this is reiterated by the sheer quality of cables, jacks and oh boy, the size of each. The jacks are especially made of metal and give a heavy feel to the headphone, something you wouldn't want to lug around. In my opinion, they are meant to showcase that they are for professional use and nothing less. The cans are planar which means they move the air around your ears and are open back. A person sitting beside you will definitely enjoy the passive music experience, though they are experiencing only some 100 notches down perhaps.

The quality of segment they belong to is an uncharted territory to most of us Indians due to lack of availability of high end audio recording, use of pirated music encoded in MP3s, etc. These headphones are meant to be used with avant grade lossless music and gear and they do their job brilliantly. I would describe my bass experience as a woofer placed near my ear that was displacing real air to produce lowest of base the moment I bumped it up on the E17K. Needless to say, versatility is a virtue you would expect by default from a professional grade headphone and they deliver. For the mids and highs, they reproduced music well from the limited listening experience I had with them.

Endgame upgrade

LCD X is heavy - let's get that out of the way. These are heavy planars and you will feel it. It caused some neck pain past the 2 hour mark for a couple of days and I guess it will take some time to get used to. I was used to Sundara's weight but this was a step up. Though these are heavy they get super comfortable and you can easily wear them for 4+ hours once you get used to it. The pads are really soft and form a great seal. The adjustment rods feel a bit loose but don't slip once adjusted and you wear it on the head. Overall these are well built with a good cable and I don't have many complaints apart from the weight.

The sound is great - exactly what you would have read in other reviews. I have EQ'd them with Oratory EQ and love the sound over the stock sound. It enhances the timbre, sound stage and bass greatly - highly recommend EQ'ing them. I have it running with a Zen stack and I almost use half volume in 3rd gain setting. They are easy to power per specs - I've tested with my Fiio K3 and Qudelix5k so I know they don't need a lot of power but feels like they respond well to more power and sound great with Zen Can. Don't have a better dac/amp than that - may consider upgrading there to see if sound quality improves.

Overall these are definitely an upgrade - I upgraded from Sennheiser HD660s and Hifiman Sundara - these feel like significant step ups with bass, detail retrieval, imaging and even soundstage. For music genres of EDM, rock, metal these will serve well as an endgame. I can't say that they're not great for vocals or classical as they seem better there too. Will have to listen to the competitors like Arya or Clear MG to know what these don't do well at but for now these are a great set of endgame planars.
