Why we love this DAC/Amp

🥜 Value for Money

We've found that the best gear isn’t always the most expensive. Some products punch well above their weight and deliver performance that rivals higher priced alternatives. That’s what we mean with the "Value for Money" badge. It’s our way of telling you that you’re getting something special without breaking the bank. 🥜

These products are all about maximum returns for minimal investment. You’re not just saving money you’re gaining an audio experience that exceeds expectations. Whether it’s build quality, tuning, or bundled accessories, these picks overdeliver.

When you see '🥜 Value for Money' products, expect impressive performance at an affordable price, making them a smart pick for budget conscious buyers or first time audiophiles.

🪴 For Budding Enthusiasts

In our experience, discovering good audio gear early on is a bit like tasting great coffee for the first time once you've had a sip, you're hooked. "For Budding Enthusiasts" is a badge we use for products that are perfect gateways into the audiophile world. They're easy to use, not overly expensive, and give you a real taste of what good sound can be without needing a degree in audio engineering. 🎧

These are the IEMs, headphones, and DACs that let you dip your toes into premium sound without drowning in choices. They balance performance, price, and practicality beautifully. Whether you're buying your first serious pair or helping someone else start their journey, these picks deliver satisfaction straight out of the box.

When you see '🪴 For Budding Enthusiasts' products, expect simple setups, solid sound quality, and an easy upgrade path perfect for your first foray into better audio.

🏠 For Audiophiles at Home

We’ve always loved the ritual of coming home, settling into my favourite chair, and firing up a dedicated setup. Gear labelled For Audiophiles at Home is made for those moments when you can really sit back and appreciate music in its purest form 🛋️. These products tend to be more powerful, larger, and often require wall power perfect for a stationary rig.

Here’s the trade off: these setups often involve external DACs, amps, or full size headphones, which means more space, more power, but also more immersive listening. They shine when used in quiet environments, where detail, depth, and dynamics can truly be appreciated.

When you see '🏠 For Audiophiles at Home' products, expect: exceptional fidelity, stronger output, and the kind of soundstage that makes you never want to leave your listening chair.

✂️ Use Wirelessly with Bluetooth

We tend to describe Bluetooth audio as wireless freedom with fewer strings attached literally. When you see Use Wirelessly with Bluetooth, it means you can pair your headphones or IEMs with phones, laptops, or even TVs all without reaching for a cable 🎶. It’s convenient, clutter free, and great for everyday listening.

What’s happening behind the scenes is your gear is using Bluetooth codecs like SBC, AAC, LDAC, or aptX to compress and transmit your music wirelessly. Better codecs mean higher quality and lower latency. Of course, there’s a trade off Bluetooth won’t match the quality of wired gear, but today’s advancements have made the gap much smaller than before.

When you see '✂️ Use Wirelessly with Bluetooth' products, expect: tangle free convenience and solid sound quality great for commuting, workouts, or casual listening.

🔗 Connect With Cable

In our experience, there’s still nothing like the dependability of a wired connection when it comes to audio 🎧. We love describing it as the direct flight of music no delays, no turbulence. When a product says “Connect with Cable,” it means you’re getting the most reliable signal path, with zero wireless compression and minimal interference.

Here’s what’s actually happening: a physical cable transmits uncompressed analog or digital signals directly from your source to your gear. This results in lower latency, no signal drops, and consistently better sound especially when paired with a good DAC or amp. It’s ideal for critical listening, gaming, and professional use. The trade off? You’re tethered but for a lot of audiophiles, that’s a small price to pay for sonic purity.

When you see '🔗 Connect With Cable' products, expect: pure, uninterrupted sound quality that lets your gear perform at its full potential perfect for focused, high fidelity listening.

Why it Sounds Amazing

⚙️ DAC Chip

We like to say the DAC chip is the heart of any audio device it’s the part that actually transforms digital files into music you can hear 🎧. Think of it like a chef decoding a recipe to create a delicious meal. The better the DAC chip, the more faithfully it translates your music. And in my experience, a great DAC can completely change how your headphones sound.

Now, here’s what’s actually happening: a Digital to Analog Converter (DAC) takes digital signals (your MP3s, FLACs, or streams) and converts them into an analog waveform your ears can enjoy. Different DAC chips like those from ESS, AKM, or Cirrus Logic offer their own sound signatures, levels of clarity, and noise performance. A good DAC ensures accurate timing, minimal distortion, and exceptional resolution.

When you see '⚙️ DAC Chip' products, expect: clean, detailed audio and better synergy with high quality headphones perfect for anyone upgrading from average sound to audiophile quality.

🚀 Power Output

We like to think of power output in audio gear like engine horsepower, it determines how much muscle your setup really has 💪. Whether you’re trying to drive a pair of power hungry planar headphones or just want headroom for dynamic peaks, power output is the spec you want to check first.

Technically, it refers to the amount of electrical power (measured in mW or Watts) an amp or DAC/Amp combo can deliver to your headphones. More power means better control, improved dynamics, and the ability to handle demanding gear without distortion. But more isn’t always better, too much power with sensitive IEMs can introduce hiss or harshness.

When you see '🚀 Power Output' products, expect: strong driving capability, better dynamics, and optimal performance with headphones that need serious juice to shine.

🔬 Decodes Upto

When We see "Decodes up to" listed in product specs, We think of it like a music translator that speaks more languages than you’ll ever need. It tells you how far a DAC or audio device can go in handling hi res formats think PCM, DSD, or MQA and at what resolution. 🧠🎶

Technically, this refers to the maximum bit depth and sample rate a DAC can process like 32 bit/768kHz PCM or DSD512. The higher these numbers, the more detailed and lifelike the audio can potentially sound. But remember, real world improvements depend on the recording quality and your headphones, not just specs alone.

  • Balanced Output

We often say balanced output is like using both hands to carry something heavy it distributes power evenly and keeps things stable. In audio gear, balanced output helps reduce unwanted noise and interference, especially over longer cables. Think of it as a cleaner, more efficient way to transmit your music, ideal for anyone using high end DACs, amps, or studio grade headphones 🎧. You’ll typically find it on gear with XLR or 4.4mm connectors, and it's a must have if you’re chasing that ultra clean signal path.

Here’s what’s actually happening: a balanced output uses two separate signals, one inverted, so when interference is picked up along the cable, it gets cancelled out when the signals are recombined. The result? Cleaner audio, better dynamic range, and more power output especially when paired with balanced headphones. The trade off? You’ll need gear that supports balanced connections on both ends to really enjoy the benefits.

When you see '⚖️ Balanced Output' products, expect: ultra low noise, more headroom, and better synergy with high impedance headphones or sensitive IEMs ideal for serious listening setups.

  • Use Wirelessly with Bluetooth

Customers praised this powerful DAC/amp for its excellent sound quality, describing it as "amazing" with a "subtle warmth" that drives both IEMs and planar headphones effortlessly. The 5 customizable PEQ profiles and versatile connectivity earned high marks. However, some noted Bluetooth audio skipping and quality control concerns with soldering.

  • From sensitive IEMs to big planar headphones - this thing is all you need!
  • It is amazing from the very first moment I started listening to it.
  • It's like DX5 ii just uncovered an invisible veil on HD 600.

Dumb audiophile review.

I purchased the Topping DX5 II primarily for use with my HIFIMAN Edition XS, 7Hz Divine, and Wan'er 2. Compared to my previous Simgot DEW4X, both planar headphones benefited noticeably from the additional power and refinement of the DX5 II. The improvement in overall presentation, control, and technical performance was immediately apparent.
The main reason I chose the DX5 II over the FiiO K13 R2R was future-proofing. Knowing my preferences, I can already see myself eventually upgrading to more demanding planar magnetic headphones. The DX5 II provides ample power for those future upgrades, and if the unit remains reliable long-term, it can also serve as a standalone DAC feeding a dedicated amplifier later on.
For anyone planning to remain a budget-conscious audiophile, the DX5 II is powerful enough to support a wide range of current and future headphone upgrades without becoming an immediate bottleneck.
Sound Impressions
The sound quality is excellent. My personal preference leans toward a neutral presentation with minimal bass emphasis. In fact, I find the 7Hz Divine slightly bass-heavy for my tastes.
To achieve my preferred sound signature, I EQ all of my headphones and IEMs to the original HIFIMAN Susvara tuning using Squiglink, then import the settings into the PEQ section of the HiBy Music Player.
With this setup, the result is simple: it sounds great.
Should You Buy It?
Yes, absolutely.
However, my recommendation is to prioritize spending on better headphones and IEMs before investing heavily in DACs and amplifiers. The improvements from transducers are typically far more significant than those from source gear.
If I could give one piece of advice, it would be this: don't make the mistake of overspending on DACs and amplifiers before maximizing the quality of your headphones or IEMs.dacs & Amps. Don't be a dumbass like me.

We're thrilled these are doing your favourite albums the justice they deserve.

Blind Buy at 30k !

Been on the chase for the DX5 ii ever since the reviews started popping up on my feed last year. Most of you have already seen reviews over YouTube and read about the specs so I'll skip that and move on to some useful info.

You might have read about the DX5 ii having a notorious issue of excessive power delivery leading to Headphones and IEMs "blowing up" as per Reddit or other places. But let me assure you, starting from the 2nd batch there is ZERO issue over that. So you can get this peacefully. Here's a bit of my experience.

1) As you can see from the picture I have my Twistura Woodnote (a moderately sensitive IEM) plugged in to this thing over 4.4 and it's running absolutely fine so YES you can drive your IEMs with this beast of a DAC Amp. I've even tried a loaner HE1000SE over 4.4 and guess what? It ran just as fine. So from sensitive IEMs to big a** Planar Headphones --- this thing is all you need!

2) Now whatever be the DAC Amp you're getting, it is a good practice to lower the volume every time you unplug something from the ports, it's considered a sort of "due diligence" to ensure that the ports are not unnecessarily powering something that's not connected. I always do this with my DX5 ii and even my iBasso DC07 Pro, the latter being a dongle DAC and if you do this ---- there will never be any issue of "things blowing up" IMO 😬

3) And the sound this thing produces from its Triple X Hybrid Amp, is VERY DIFFERENT from previous Topping Amps like A70 ! You might hear people saying that Toppings sound a lot clinical / dry, but this is not the case with the DX5ii. It has a subtle warmth in its tonality and that over-sharpening of the upper treble has been removed. You have a set of PEQ presets so you can add that back in any time you want but for me, at least for my IEMs, the default one is more than enough.

P.S. Since I own both the iBasso DC07 Pro and the Topping DX5ii now, I can safely say that wrt IEMs exclusively, there is very little difference to how they sound in terms of dynamic range, but trust me, you'll immediately realize how much potential the DX5ii has in terms of dynamics when you move on to power hungry headphones.

And lastly I would say that it's all thanks to Headphone Zone that I was able to get this one without bashing my head over purchase and return policies that creeps in when you're thinking about importing from global websites. I've been buying from HPZ since 2024 and never been disappointed.

I'll definitely move on to Headphone Reviews starting this year, now that I have this bad boy, so stay tuned on my channel! Peace ✌️

Amazing integrated DAC & Amp unit

I was reading and listening to reviews in various forums for 2 years to pick a best desktop DAC & AMP. The main dilemma for me was whether to go for separate DAC and AMP or get an integrated DAC& AMO unit.

After hearing so many good things about DX5 II, zeroed in on it. Oh boy, it is amazing from the very first moment I started listening to it to till date.

I paired it with HD 660S2, Byear Dynamic 770 and a few IEMS. With each one of them, I had a real audiophile experience. Connected to Apple Music, Tidal and Qobuz as the source from HiBY R4 DAP. Either with USB or through Bluetooth, Topping DX5 II gives you the best sonic experience.

Being natural and warm, it allows the headphones and the tracks to establish their goodness. It is absolutely incredible and worth every penny. Having said that at this price point it is a killer DAP & AMP unit.

Hi Sankara. Thank you for being part of this community. I am so glad the Topping DX5 II is helping you hear everything the creator intended.

A great device ruined by manufacturing defect.

Update:
Initially I used it with HD600, which cannot produce sub bass. When I paired it with ZMF Caldera (it has great sub bass capacity), there was loud crackle around 50hz (sub bass region) whenever the frequency loudness went above -2.5dB. So, I sent it back to Headphonezone office for warranty purpose. They told me that the circuit has some fault. So, they gave me the option to either wait for it to restock so that I get a new device, or get a coupon for the paid amount which can be used to buy any other product on Headphonezone website. So, I chose this opportunity to upgrade to a Class A/B AMP/DAC.
So, clearly there is some problem with the November 2025 stock of DX5II by Topping. So, carefully check this device with good headphones for all frequencies. Stay aware folks! I am taking out 2 stars for this massive manufacturing defect.

Some highlights:
(1) “990mW at 300 ohms with the balanced headphone output”, impressive! Driving Sennheiser HD 600 is like a cakewalk for it.
(2) 5 PEQ profiles (with 10 bands) can be saved on the device using the Topping Tune software on windows and Mac. And switching between them is quick on the device through remote (I’ve set the B button on the remote, to switch between on-device saved PEQ).
(3) Coming from Fiio K11, it was a significant jump for me, in terms of both, DAC’s sound and AMP’s power. It’s like DX5 ii just uncovered an invisible veil on HD 600. Its DAC really suits this headphone’s tonality.
(4) To all the HD 600 owners, the pre saved “Warm” PEQ makes it shine. It will feel like this DAC was the missing part of 600’s identity.
(5) Everything, literally everything can be customized in the Menu. It even remembers the PEQ, Volume level and the Gain through its various outputs. It is very useful, if you plug (say) an IEM in the unbalanced jack with Low Gain-high volume with PEQ4 and HD 600 in the balanced jack with High Gain-low volume with PEQ5. Now, you can easily switch between these two without worrying about adjusting volume, gain, PEQ everytime. Pretty handy!
(6) The FFT Home display is very useful, as it shows the real frequency response of the ouput. You can very clearly see how loud are the various frequencies in various songs.
(7) The remote does not come with AAA batteries, something you need to arrange before unboxing this.
(8) The bluetooth supports upto 96kHz-24 bits, which is much higher than the CD quality and covers 85% of Apple music library highest audio quality. For the rest 15% I use the wired connection.
Concluding, I do not understand that how did Topping manage to fit such a poweful AMP architecture in such a small chasis without ventilation grills! along with the AC to DC converter inside the body. This is indeed an engineering marvel. This package is too good to be true under $300. No wonder it was out of stock globally for about 3 months. This is so feature rich, that I can write another 500 words on it. It is that good. For more information, download the user manual put in the product description.
Lastly I would like to thank the Headphone Zone team for their superb packaging, and to Raghav for bringing this marvel to the Indian Audiophile market.

A word of caution

While searching for DAC and Amps, came across the Topping DX5 ii and it seemed to fulfill all the criteria while being relatively affordable. Reviews for it were outstanding so I went ahead and ordered it.

When it arrived the box and the unit felt quite premium and well built and I was pleasantly surprised. However when I started using it over bluetooth it skipped over a few seconds of initial audio due to being on standby or something and I could not find any setting to make it play the initial few seconds; always needing to rewind. I have other bluetooth devices and they do not have this issue.

So I searched on the internet for Topping DX5 ii issue and was alarmed to come across some threads on Hifi audio and ASR where many people were reporting issues with their amp getting destroyed when plugging in multiple devices at once and sometimes even damaging their headphones 💀

People who had opened up their devices noted that the internal soldering of some components was not so good and could cause shorting especially when plugging in things in the 6.35 mm SE and 4.4 mm balanced connectors. This issue was not faced by all but still a significant number of people had reported it.

As far as my unit is concerned I have not faced this issue so far and I have plugged earphones in both the 6.35 SE and 4.4 BA a few times to test things. Now by itself this should not be an issue as the circuits in the amp should be designed to deal with it but maybe due to cost cutting measures Topping made some compromises which can cause issue.

My advice would be to search for these issues and check your unit thoroughly if you decide to go for it.

It is wonderful to hear that your music finally feels alive and present.
