The IEM market is full of multi driver IEMs, coming with a complex collection of drivers, crossover design & mostly humongous shell size.
In that respect Campfire Astrolith is quite different, it has 2 Planar magnetic drivers, simple but effective crossoverless design & comes with one of the most comfortable shell sizes. Longer we are in this audio hobby, the more we realize the importance of a comfortable design & size of an IEM.
Astrolith's Planar magnetic drivers & the internals seem to be designed & tuned to provide an extremely detailed & lively sound. Its thumping bass impact reminds me of Audeze headphones & its clear mids & well extended treble of Hifiman house sound. Many have claimed Astrolith's mids to be sitting behind mostly due to its V shaped sound profile, I personally feel it's not completely true as with different tracks I hear mids positioned differently.
I have given Astrolith four stars, because directly out of box Astrolith may sound underwhelming to many & the above mentioned stellar sound qualities are possible only after the below stated steps were carried out.
Like most planar magnetic headphones, Astrolith requires a good burn in time for the drivers, at least around 100 Hrs.
The 'Time Stream' cable that campfire provides with most of their IEM's is not at all suitable for Atstrolith, as it makes the bass bloated, mids muddled & the highs grainy. I believe one of the main reasons this IEM has such a varied opinion & went under the radar is because of this cable! I used Astrolith with my Final A8000 cable, & the sound changed for good as described in the above paragraphs. Lastly, provided eartips also seem equally mismatched like the cables, & using Final Type E eartips made all the difference.
Ken ball & team at Campfire have made an excellent IEM with a dynamic sound & great technicalities, but shipping Astrolith with such an unsuitable cable & eartips seems to have negatively affected its sound quality & user experience. In this hobby I realize many are willing to try different permutation & combinations with cables & eartips, but personally I prefer not to, especially cables.
With above mentioned tweaks, Campfire Astrolith provides an enjoyable & detailed music listening experience, plus It's extremely comfortable to use. With one of the lowest THD's & crossoverless driver design, it delivers a pitch black background & coherent sound. The fact that just two planar drives produces such a dynamic & well layered sound is a testament to Campfire's design & tuning of the driver & the chambers. Compared to ThieAudio Monarch MK3 & Prestige Ltd, Astrolith sounds more cohesive & is extremely comfortable to wear. When compared with Final A8000, A8000 sounds a bit leaner & has less bass impact, but the micro & macro details presented are similar to Astrolith. They both sound very dynamic but the perception of soundstage is a bit wider on Astrolith. A8000 & Astrolith both are excellent & will always remain in my collection.
I shall only talk about its sonic capabilities and everything else that encapsulates the sound that the Astrolithās dual planar driver configuration (a first in an IEM) delivers.

Let me first say that it exceeded all my expectations especially for the price at which they are offering this mythical, magical, and mesmerising IEM. I had a very neutral feeling at the back of my mind prior listening to this as I have had the privilege to listen and own many TOTL IEMS but Campfire has always had a special place in my heart. Alright enough of beating around the bush and let us talk about how the Astrolith sounds and why it is also very special and different from many other IEMs that are TOTL.
The Bass:-
Blew me away, especially with the quantity of thump and rumble, very difficult to believe that it does not have a single or multiple set of DD. Planars have great speed, but Campfire tuned this one in a different way that it has the speed and accuracy expected from a planar driver but also the rumble and the quantity of a DD. Exemplary!! The icing on the cake is that this alluring bass does not bleed into the mids, itās an emphatic bass that always exists and one that shall not oversaturate the overall natural yet revealing tonality.
The Mids:-
Extremely smooth and the transition from the bass to mids is simply sublime, and this where the Astrolith starts to pull away from many other TOTL IEMs, for this coherent bass to mids transition especially given the fact that it has a thumping bass which has stupendous quality and quantity. Male vocals, I dare say are slightly recessed compared to the female vocals but nevertheless lacking anything. In a nutshell, this creates a gargantuan soundstage with great spread from left to right and also providing very accurate imaging which feels slightly holographic yet very precise and airy.
The Treble:-
Astrolithās treble is an audiophileās dream. I wonāt say it is hot but it definitely makes its presence quite prominent. I can confidently say that it does not venture into the sibilant category but rather adds to the entire frequency spectrum an overall added extension. It is just perfectly done which is responsible for the Astrolithās grandiose sound presentation, just uncanny!
The Astrolith is like a wolf in sheepās clothing, and truly is a class apart. It is ruthlessly unforgiving if the quality of the source and music is not up to the mark but feed it with good stuff and it will keep you enchanted. The detail retrieval is again almost second to none but without making it fatiguing to listen to. One thing which I must address (though I said that I wonāt talk about anything apart from its sound quality) is that the provided ear-tips simply donāt do justice to this IEM. That being said, tip rolling is quite standard when you purchase a TOTL IEM and could even be quite enjoyable rather than being arduous. Campfire Audio have yet again surpassed their own high standards, withholding their world class repertoire and the future looks very bright for the brand with the release of the Astrolith.
