Open-Back Design

Headphones with an open-back design, allow air to pass through the earcups. This means that Open-Backs do not block any noise from around you, as closed-backs do, and music being heard will also leak outside to people around you. So they can only be heard in a quiet environment.

However, Open-back headphones do sound more natural and open. Open-back headphones create a feeling of space, presenting audio as if you are sitting at a live concert. Audiophiles swear by open-back headphones, and they sound quite different to closed-backs.

These headphones are perfect for critical listening sessions, mixing and mastering music. They have an accurate soundstage presentation and precise imaging.

Grado has its deep roots in Brooklyn and has been hand-building headphones and cartridges since 1953. For three generations, tradition and heritage have been carried down with the philosophy that sound comes first. The story of the SR80x holds a special place in Grado’s history and the ears of hundreds of thousands of listeners. The first pair was built in 1991, and Grado wouldn’t be here today without it. Keeping up with the times, Grado upgrades the SR80x headphones to offers a wide soundstage, world-renowned mid-range, and speed. SR80x uses Grado's new X Series drivers, which have a lighter voice coil, redesigned diaphragms, and a more powerful magnetic circuit with a frequency response of 20 - 22,000 Hz. Couple the drivers with the SR80x's comfortable new headband and 4-conductor cable, and you are presented with an unparalleled audio performance with utmost comfort.

Grado SR80x headphones have been equipped with the latest 4th gen of Grado X series drivers. Specifically tuned for the SR80x, the new dynamic driver’s design features a more powerful magnetic circuit, a voice coil with decreased effective mass, and a reconfigured diaphragm. Reengineering these components for Grado’s 44mm drivers improve efficiency, reduces distortion, and preserves the harmonic integrity of your music. The SR80x also utilises a new housing that is designed to work in tandem with the X series drivers to eliminate transient distortions. With these new drivers, specially designed housing and an open-back design, the Grado SR80x delivers full-bodied vocals and excellent dynamics with a nominal impedance of 38 ohms.

Every aspect of the Grado SR80x has been carefully and precisely selected to match the new drivers and deliver an immersive listening experience. To support high fidelity audio transmission Grado SR80x comes equipped with a new cable, using a thicker jacket that houses four conductors made of super-annealed copper wire. This new cable ensures pure, accurate signal transfer, so you won't miss out on the details in your music. The new headband is beefed up with extra cushioning to maximise comfort and the wearing experience. With this new cable and headband, the listening experience is enhanced, and you can use the Grado SR80x for long listening sessions without any fatigue.

The team at Grado takes no shortcuts when it comes to crafting their headphones. The same is the case with the SR80x, which is hand-built by Grado's team in Brooklyn. This headphone goes from workbench to workbench until they are ready for your ears. Grado started building on a kitchen table in 1953, and every experience since then has led to the creation of the SR80x. This process of handcrafting headphones allows the team at Grado to maintain high quality with every single headphone. These headphones are a work of art when you come to think of their journey. To get you started, the SR80x comes bundled with a 6.5mm Golden adapter to connect the SR80x to various audio equipment.

Over performer in this price tag

So im coming from hd600&700 and was looking for something easy to drive yet with good detailing can. Headphonezone suggested me el8, isine10 since both of these were out of my budget for now i took a chance with grado sr125e. Unfortunately this was unavailable so the sr225&325. Only sr80e was in stock so I downgraded to this. And thanks headphonezone for the prompt reply and arrangement of the shipping as well as the refund. Coming to this can im fortunate enough to use various headphones and this tiny light weight can this grado is my best buy till date. Brilliant detailing brilliant highs and mids. Exactly what i was looking for. Thank you headphonezone. Lastly one message to headphonezone please make grados more available so tht one doesn't have to downgrade .

Good Headphones. Price is too high. (Costs $99 in US)

Sounds good. They (Headphone Zone) should decrease the price. The free earpads are not good.

Nice sounding, but not worth it

These headphones sound good. They have a wide soundstage. They are a little bright, so the vocals shine but all this can't make up for the fact that they are poorly built. I got fatigued after wearing them only for an hour. I expect a better build quality from headphones at this price point, hence 3 star

I did't expect it

This is my first pair of "expensive" "audiophile" "open back" headphones. The very first time I heard music on this I knew I will never use any of the old headphones again. The sound stage is just so rich! Possibly my benchmarks are not really the best. But I can say that these sound incredible. Listening to classical music and live music on these pretty much give you a feel of being there. Watched a few movies, again lovely rich sound. Since it doesn't isolate you from the environment you are in, it completely changes the experience.
Not necessarily the best for people who love a lot of bass.

Hey there, we're really glad to know that you loved the product so much. Thank you for such an amazing and a detailed review, you're awesome!

Amazing Grados headphones and Enjoyable purchase experience.

I have multiple number of premier headphones of various international brands. Bose, Sony, Seneisser, Beats, Denon, Marshall and so on. For the first time I discovered the value of a open back design which takes listening pleasure to a new level. I am only an audio enthusiast and not a connoisseur audiophile. Yet I was able to discover unique blend & the incredible difference in bass, mid range & top instrumentation and vocal histrionics of the orchestra. I particularly love the way Headphone Zone is making the purchase process a very enjoyable experience with hands on customer education & service. The range, variety, brand spread, pricing, home audition opportunities, friendly communication make this specialist retailer a rare breed in a crowded online market. It is almost like dealing with a friendly person in an internationally reputed showroom. Great keep it up
