12mm Large Dynamic
FEATURING DYNAMIC DRIVER WITH TESLA MAGNETIC FLUX AND JAPANESE VOICE COIL
FiiO FD3 continues in the direction of its FD line siblings in using the flagship grade 12mm dynamic driver. The inside of the FD3 shell is embedded with a driver with a robust magnet of 1.5 Tesla magnetic flux, paired with an ultra-fine copper-clad aluminium Japanese Daikoku voice coil for accurate sound reproduction.
MODERN DLC DIAPHRAGM AND ACOUSTIC PRISM SYSTEM FOR LOW DISTORTION AND CLARITY
Flag-ship grade components have been used in the design of the FiiO FD3. The diaphragm is made of diamond-like carbon (DLC) which is rigid and surprisingly light. This design decision makes the FD3 comfortable to wear and also reduce unwanted distortion having a tremendous transient response. The FD3 are further enhanced with the acoustic prism system which brings numerous benefits such as eliminating high frequency standing waves, enhancing overall sound wave diffusion and even effectively solving the problem of time delay caused by sound wave propagation path in the cavity. This all leads to amazing sound quality.
INDUSTRIAL GRADE ALUMINUM - MAGNESIUM ALLOY BODY FUSED WITH A SEMI-OPEN DESIGN
High quality craftsmanship is the primary goal at FiiO and this is reflected in the FD3 unmistakably. The main body is made of aluminium-magnesium alloy in an industrial process combining five-axis CNC processing and hand polishing. This makes the body durable and super elegant to look at. The FD3 features a semi-open design that is based on the company’s patented technology for balanced air pressure. This semi-open design provides a natural sound and also effectively protects your hearing by balancing air pressure within the body and leads to less pressure on your eardrums. This enhances the listening experience tenfold, making the sound less forced.
PERFECT BALANCE BETWEEN FORM AND FUNCTION
The look of the FiiO FD3 is based on the theme of curves and is simple yet has a beautiful appearance. This is visible in the unique celluloid panel which is covered with 2.5D film coating glass for a Pure transparent look. The FD3 also features interchangeable sound tunes for customising the frequency response of the earphone. How this works is, while the outer diameter of the sound tubes is the same, the inner diameter differs for each sound tube. The large inner diameter tube (black) produces detailed treble, and the small inner diameter tube (red) gives robustness. This is a truly unique approach and is the perfect balance of form and function.
CAREFULLY SELECTED MMCX CONNECTOR WITH Hi-Res AUDIO CERTIFICATION
FiiO FD3 comes with a carefully designed cable that truly enhances the user experience. The cable features an MMCX connector for easier connectivity and is reinforced with 4 strands of high-purity monocrystalline copper. This reproduces music vividly and with superior clarity. The FD3 is a Hi-Res Audio certified earphone and capable of reproducing delicate details and is a treat to listen to.

1. The small hole in the front cavity is used to relieve air pressure. It can help to moderate pressures that happen to the ear canal when putting the FD3 inside the ears. If the front hole is blocked, it would enhance the bass performance. However, hearing fatigue would also be caused easily due to increasing pressures in the ear canal.
2. The diaphragm of the FD3 is made of Diamond-Like Carbon (DLC). Therefore, if the front pressure-relief hole is blocked, it will cause unneeded distortion due to slight transformation of the diaphragm when it is vibrating.
[Semi-open acoustic design] The semi-open acoustic design of the FD3 based on FiiO's patented technology for balanced air pressure within brings several advantages. Not only does such a design lead to more natural sound, but it also effectively protects your hearing by balancing air pressure within the cavity, leading to less pressure on your eardrums. This makes your listening experience less tiring and the sound less forced.
[Front acoustic prism]
The acoustic prism so effectively used in the flagship FD5 for great sound quality is also featured in the FD3. Like with the FD5, the acoustic prism system brings numerous benefits such as eliminating high frequency standing waves, enhancing overall sound wave diffusion, and even effectively solving the problem of time delay caused by sound wave propagation path in the cavity. This all leads to marvelous sound quality that will surely take your breath away.
The FD3 has unit markers on both earphone units: blue L on the left channel and red R on the right. Other than the letter marker, there are corresponding colors at the position of the MMCX connectors, left blue and right red. Please fit the correct channel according to the indication markers when changing the cable.

Okay a really long review.... Soo just trust me!
I'm a music producer soo i know the sound when i listen to it.
I was have beyerdynamics dt990, audio technica ath-m50x. In IEMs I have kz zex pro, tripowin mele, fiio fd1, kz zs10 pro, moondrop aria.
Now idc about the comfort and quality and all (FYI its comfortable and has premium quality) so let's get into the sound..
The soundstage is really good... Like if this is ur first iem then after listening to fd3s for the first time u might think it's narrow and it's not good but comparing all IEMs in this price range this has the best soundstage maybe it competes even with few higher priced IEMs. I used VE avani dongle so yaa.. dongles matter.
Imaging and resolution i mean it's good but don't expect tooo much cause it's gud according to tuning.... It's a fun iem so yaa
Keep in mind i used "black nozzle with vocal eartips"! With avani dac
Now first and foremost, u need a dac to use this don't listen to all other reviews.. u will get a hissing sound if u connect this iem directly to devices.. so i recommend dac.. any dac that's upon u, avani is cheap and i use it for this iem so it's a gud choice.
Now let's start with bass.. u will get rich super punchy bass.. very rarely it bleeds into the mids that too if u listen in high volume.. everyone will enjoy the low end bass of this iem.. there's nothing else to say
Now treble, actually believe me i didn't expect a good treble in this iem after looking at tuning graph.. but the treble is actually good. It's not like aria or know balanced IEMs... But for a fun iem it's really good.. if u r worried that treble will be compressed and clarity will suffer... Don't worry it's nothing like that! And It's far from fatiguing.
Okay I'll be honest the mids can be better there is less body.. i won't say there's no body in tuning... But I'll say there's less body..... Again u won't lose any mids... Mids r present but they are a bit laid back..
Overall for sound I'll give 9.4/10..
Why?? Cause it's versatile and it's a tuning which 99% people will like and the soundstage damnnn is soo good
1. Buy a dac any good quality cheap dac will do
2. Experiment with nozzles and eartips to find ur sound.. don't decide the sound with the nozzle and eartips which come default...
My recommendation black nozzle and treble eartips
3. If u have more budget u can get tripowin or any other cable... Fiio fd3 default cable is a little bit tangley
4. I don't think i need to say this but i will...
Listen to good quality song file... Flac or wav or apple music lossless
Okay soo my conclusion just buy justtt buyyy.... U will love it!!
(Burn-in is not required as it is a high quality dynamic driver but I'm still buring it so i can't tell u about that)
HI SAI ROHIT LINGAMPALLI,
We are so happy you took out time & elaborately reviewed the product with a comparison. We are sure this will help our customers to make an even better & informed decision.
Why FD3, in the world of wireless and even no mic?
Quite simple. Sound quality. No wireless tech can come close to the wired ones. Especially since you can plug it in with good DACs. I already have a entry level DC02. Though entry level for audiophiles, its atleast 10 times better than what you get with your mobile phones, barring the LG phones that is(which are extinct now). Was tempting to go with FH3, but I did some research and could see this is has a wider soundstage than that, though overall sound quality is better in that. Also, this might sound a bit unnecessary but the FH3 looks cheap while this one is better built. And I already have been using the 1more triple drivers for over 3 years and its right channel stopped working hence got this. This time didn't want to go with triple driver configuration again(FH3), wanted to try something new
The sound quality is better than my 1more triple drivers. The details are better here. 1 more used to sound slightly muddy when compared to this. This one is one step ahead. Its not perfect. Has lot of treble. Tried reducing it in equaliser but that impacts originality. Usually its better to keep equaliser flat to allow earphones full freedom to express themselves. But you will get used to it. Doesn't sound harsh as such. Not balanced sound definitely v shaped but without sacrificing the tiny details. Maybe the FA1 could be more natural and represent sound exactly as is but might not be fun without bass
My take on Headphone Zone
Ordering and delivering experience was fantastic. Had a personal touch to it. Really liked it.
Headphone zone site specifically caters to the speciality in headphone buying. This is really great and interactive you even have professionals who can advise the best for you. Other giants handle all products hence could not have much of a focus driven approach. These guys are phenomenal. If you care about your music, you must come here. lots of products here are exclusive and you can't find them anywhere. i mean how many people know what a dac is. it's for niche crowd and even being a beginner doesn't matter. you can even buy headphone cables here
Am hoping we can also have a Speakers zone where we can specialize on great speakers - Like from Polk Audio/Z263/JBL studio monitors etc
My take on Fiio
If you look at the product catalog of Fiio, you will understand these guys take music seriously. They have FA series focused on balanced sound, with only balanced armatures. They have FD series for V shaped excellence while not compromising on vocals by virtue of using best quality dynamic drivers. Then they have the FH series which combines both. Then we have focus on the quality of cables(which you can buy separately and use it on your headphones), which can make huge difference in sound quality. So if you notice, their mindset and approach is purely focussed on sound quality and no fancy features. This speaks for itself. This aspect drew me in and I am sure people who are interested in pure sound quality and not just for show-off, will understand
What about higher priced models
Ofcourse they will sound better, but at this price point based on your budget, this is a bang for the buck. I believe at 1.8k, the KZ have a hybrid driver which could be best at that range and at 5.7k the Fiio FH1s would also be great. Note that these are all hi-res certified. - They can play from 10 - 40k khz range
Thank you so much for the absolutely detailed review on FD3. Our team absolutely loved your take on the brand & Headphone Zone. We do have speakers on our web yes but we do intend to expand our range in the near future. Anyway, cheers man & keep the music playing!
I am loving it. The bass is amazing. The mids, highs and lows are all balanced and can be tweaked by using an equaliser. The build quality is great. Using it with Tempotec DSD
Hey there, nothing makes us happier than knowing you loved your purchase, hope you had a comfortable shopping experience & thank you for the great review & ratings!
First of all, kudos to Headphone Zone guys for shipping this fast! Always on time.
Coming back to the these pair of IEMs, here are my opinion:
Since my use cases are mostly listening to music while working and little bit of gaming, so was looking for something with which I don't have to fiddle with the equalizer much, but should also provide good enough clarity. Also, 2-pin connectors seemed they might bend if the IEMs are not stored properly, or if I fall asleep while wearing them, hence was looking for something with MMCX connectors. Shortlisted the Meze Rai Solo, FiiO FH3 (hybrid) and FiiO FD3. Unfortunately the first two went out of stock, and the FD3s semi open design caught my attention. Also the V-shaped sound signature seems more fun when listening during travels and commutes. And so a decision was made.
Inside the box:
Neat packaging, contains just about everything you need. Once you open the box, you'll get the IEMs itself attached to a copper core cable with 3.5mm plug. There's a case included as well which holds multiple set of ear tips: Balanced, Vocals, Bass, Foam. Has two sound tubes as well, red ring ones provide a tad bit of more bass (preinstalled), and the black ring ones accentuates the treble. Apart from these you also get a cleaning brush and MMCX assist tool.
The IEM units are cylindrical and well built. They feel heavy on hands but once you wear them, you don't feel the weight. The wire also feels good and seems like built to last, but only time will tell how they fare. The MMCX connection also feels solid and doesn't seem loose at all.
Out of the box, it's definitely V-shaped. But even with this characteristic, it doesn't feel there are overlaps in sound. The tone is on the warmer side and feels nice. Soundstage is on the narrower side. I'll breakdown the observations with the combo I've tried so far.
- Stock Setup: Red Tube, Balanced Ear Tips, Sound Source: OnePlus 7T + iBasso DC03
Great for Pop and Electronic tracks right out of the box. Tune the sound even more with a equalizer and these don't feel stressed at all. Mid needs to be lifted a bit, but whatever frequency you boost, the sound delivery is good with minimal bleeding (it's only there when you pay real attention).
- Black Tube, Bass Ear Tips, same sound source as above
These sounds just about right for Rock, Metal and Electronic. The bass guitars are clean, the hi-hat strikes are detailed enough. While the female vocals seemed fine, the male vocals tend to be on the warmer side. I'm using this combo for sometime now and enjoying every bit of it. And then, when listening to electronic and hip-hop, ramp up the bass in the equalizer and that 12mm DD shines like a star! And thanks to the opening in the chamber, you won't feel any pressure during long time usage.
Yet to test the other combinations, and I doubt it'll happen soon.
This is an easy pair of IEMs for those who wants to wear, sit down and enjoy their music. While these may not appeal to those who are looking for details in everything they listen to, this is an offering which will please most of the demographic.
Delighted to know that the headphones are matching your expectations. We hope you had a comfortable shopping experience & thank you for the review & ratings!
Great for daily use. Responds to EQ surprisingly well. Make your own sound. Gives enough stage and clarity. The changeable tubes changes the signature a lot, bass or balanced. Mids remain clear in whichever case. I am using them with KZ foam tips and a JCally cable, sound is amazing.
Great product. Balanced sound signature with great separation of low mids and highs. Want to try with some dac to give it’s complete review. Delivery by Headphone zone is superfast and great! Thanks for the same. Definitely will purchase a portable dac in near future.
