What are the changes in Snowsky ECHO V1.8.0 firmware?

Firmware Update Steps:
Unzip the downloaded firmware file.
Copy the ECHOVxxx.img file to the root directory of the ECHO's internal memory.
Safely eject the device.
Restart the ECHO to begin the automatic firmware upgrade.
Important Notes:
The firmware upgrade process may format the internal memory.
It is recommended to back up your music files before updating.
If you encounter any issues during the update process, please contact customer support.

Around 20 years ago, I gifted myself a Sony Walkman for my birthday. I loved having a dedicated device just for music. Product overall
It is always a pleasure to serve someone like you who values music as much as we do.
The buttons are the reason for the 4 star, they feel cheap. Screen and the snowsky logo at the back are a magnet for fingerprints and scratches. Software feels a bit clunky at times but not a deal breaker. My intention of buying this was to use my phone less, and for that purpose alone its worth it for me. Paired with my ZS12 Pro X the sound is great.

I bought this completely aware of the kind of device I was getting. I got pulled to the device due to the build quality and the novel looks. So I have no one to blame for the purchase but myself.
This review might cater to people who are about to make an impulse purchase due to the device's cool factor.
For me, the Snowsky ECHO has almost nothing worthwhile to offer. In today's day and age, where a lot of us have been spoilt with the ease and superlative user experience of music streaming apps like Apple Music, this little device doesn't have much to offer, save for the fact that you get to store your music on it and play it. Even in that area, it is not very good. I have a decently sized collection of hi-res music that I intend to play via the ECHO. Problems start as soon as you insert the microSD and try to update the music library. The music library doesn't get updated properly, you see a song from a completely different artist under an artist's name (even with the latest firmware), there is no support for .cue files, and there is no gapless playback. I believe there's no playlist support as well, but I don't care about that too much so doesn't matter to me. If one tries playing a song from a folder directly, it might take a few seconds before the song actually starts. The screen brightness levels are not up to the mark, I guess there could be options for lower screen brightness.
Now coming to the UX. Where do I even start. As I said earlier, I bought this of my own volition as I was drawn to the looks, build and compact nature of it. I let my emotions get the better of me. Anyway, the UX is not good at all. Say I set a certain volume level for an IEM while playing music. If I plug out said IEM and plug another one in, I can't adjust the volume again until I hit play. It might sound like nitpicking but this is a major friction point for me. Then there is the very jarring button based navigation itself, which is frustrating to say the least. For the first day, the clickety-clack of the buttons seemed nice but then the whole thing got irritating. You also have a major set of buttons performing three different duties (volume adjustment, track skips, and fast forward / rewind). If one manages to get the hang of it then great, but I find this very finnicky to use despite having got the functionality down.
Some good things about the device are the sound quality itself, which I found reasonably good. Because of the high gain mode it can drive all my IEMs. Battery life is decent considering device footprint. And it looks cool too.
It is very difficult for the ECHO to become my primary music consumption device. For now I will stick with my phone and dongle DAC amp. I should have just bought an android DAP, maybe the JM21 instead of this.

The output scene is just too confusing, no more options to choose from , the dac mode keep the speaker limited to 16bit
Wanted to get away from the Spotify algorithm and actually have a highly curated personal library of music, this does the trick and in style too, the sound quality is exceptional, build quality is top tier and it's just a very fun device to use

Your product is very good. I have listen Hindi songs (.wav) format which is very good. High quality audio tracks provides high sound quality. It is Flac Master. I have use it with my Kefine Klean IEM as well as with Fiio IEM. Both delivers good audio quality.
There is nothing like that moment when the gear disappears and only the music remains.

Decent DAP at this price. I would suggest those who are thinking of the mini to get this one instead. For 2k more you get a much better aluminium build and a slightly bigger screen, Feels much better in the hand.
This is my personal opinion, but I feel you should get this only if you specifically don't want a touch screen and want mechanical buttons and a nostalgic feeling. If not, then the snow sky disc and the Hiby R1 could be better options for you at a similar price at this. It would be more suited considering a little more features as well as a better UI experience.
Don't expect the 14 hours battery unless you are playing normal MP3 files with no filters and low gain. If you listen to FLAC files on high gain and occasional filters, 8 hours is a more realistic number.
Otherwise its a good DAP.
