DESCRIPTION
PRISTINE AUDIO SIGNAL CONVERSION WITH FEMTOSECOND CLOCK
RME ADI-2 FS is embedded with an ultra-stable femtosecond clock and impressivespecs. The RME ADI-2 FS offers accurate AD/DA conversion of audio signals. This super-versatile 2-channelunit offers balanced analogue inputs and outputs along with monitoring via headphone output, SteadyClock FSfor optimal conversion quality, 3-stage hardware input and output level control and the additional modes D-Dand A-A turn the ADI-2 FS into a universal tool and a flexible problem-solver. Its pro-class sound qualifiesit also as an extension for other premium converters. It can tackle sample rates up to 192kHz, convertsignals between multiple digital formats. The ADI-2 FS is an exceptional multi-format AD/DA converter forengineers and audiophiles alike.
ULTRA-STABLE STEADYCLOCK FS TECHNOLOGY FOR JITTER-FREE AUDIO
The analogue inputs on the RME ADI-2 FS use the advanced circuit design of thehighly acclaimed ADI-2 Pro, thus offering outstandingly low noise and distortion as well as extendedfrequency response. Three different settings for input and output levels provide perfect compatibility inthe analogue domain. A further highlight is SteadyClock FS, RMEs latest clock technology for maximum jittersuppression and lowest self-jitter. It guarantees superb sound quality completely independent from thequality of the current reference clock. The ADI-2 FS uses the conversion technology based on the ADI-2 Pro -the AK557x family and the AK4490 chips not only offers 192 kHz sampling frequency and low distortion butalso a dynamic range of 120 dBA.
FEATURING A HIGH POWER HEADPHONE OUTPUT FOR IMMACULATE AUDIO
The RME ADI-2 FS functions as an analogue preamp — its analogue bypass modesupports levels up to +22dBu. The ADI-2 FS is designed and engineered to deliver raw power. Its High Powerheadphone output is a scaled-down version of the ADI-2 Pro FS’s pristine-sounding Extreme Power outputstage. Put on your favourite set of headphones, plug into the ADI-2 FS, and you’ll experience the ultimatein impact and clarity, thanks to up to 0.7 watts of power per channel, a 0.1-ohm output impedance, a +19dBumaximum output level, and a super-low -110dB of THD. To top it off, the ADI-2 FS employs a relay to ensureclick-free on and off switching.
FLUID FUNCTIONALITY FUSED WITH MULTIPLE INPUTS AND OUTPUTS
The ADI-2 FS is equipped with two servo-balanced analogue line inputs viaXLR/phones combo jacks, simultaneously usable balanced XLR and unbalanced phone jacks, an adjustable HighPower headphone output on the front, and ADAT compatible optical SPDIF I/O, and a coaxial SPDIF I/O (RCA,AES/EBU compatible). These extensive connectivity options provide the most flexible and uncompromised signaltransmission. But the ADI-2 has more to offer than tremendous sound. It also offers exciting digitalconnectivity. Its coaxial RCA SPDIF I/O has a switchable Channel Status to make it AES/EBU compatible (cableadapter required). The optical TOSLINK I/Os can handle up to 192 kHz and serve as ADAT I/O, even at 192 kHz.An operation with SPDIF input and ADAT output or vice versa, in both AD/DA and D-D mode.
DIGITAL FORMAT CONVERSION WITH SIMULTANEOUS MONITORING
With input selection set to DIG the RME ADI-2 FS works as a digital formatconverter with simultaneous monitoring. The AD converter is disabled, the DA converter is still used formonitoring the digital input signal, at the rear outputs and the headphone output. Format conversion ispossible between all options - SPDIF coaxial (or AES) with Professional or Consumer Status, as well as ADAT.The output selection ANA connects the analogue output circuitry directly to the analogue input circuitry. The AD converter continues to convert the analogue input signal to SPDIF (AES) or ADAT, with the outputsSPDIF coaxial and ADAT optical simultaneously available. This 'analogue bypass' allows the ADI-2 FS to beused as an analogue preamp (line level only). Gain and attenuation can be achieved via the level adjustmentof input and output, or even fully variable when the VOL potentiometer is inserted. In this mode, the ADI-2FS supports analogue levels up to +22 dBu. In addition, it can work as a converter balanced to unbalancedand vice versa.
DEDICATED POWER SUPPLY MERGED WITH THOUGHTFUL DESIGN
Power is supplied to the device via an included, external switching power supplywith a lockable connector for the RME ADI-2 FS. Thanks to a wide operating voltage range of 9 - 15 volts, the ADI-2 FS can be used with battery or rechargeable battery in class-compliant mode, thus also for mobileuse. It is also suitable e.g. galvanic isolation in the laboratory or measuring applications. The clearlayout and distinct labelling of the front panel with its functional buttons, the informative statusdisplay, a 6 LED level metre, as well as the tidy back panel, make it easy to operate the unit right out ofthe box. The front panel knob adjusts the volume of the headphone output. It can also be inserted into therear signal path via a simple key combination so that the rear line outputs can be steplessly adjusted inlevel as the phones output. The choice of three hardware levels stays available, thus allowing for bettermatching of the desired levels on front and rear outputs.
