I am not an audiophile; I am simply someone who loves music and listens to almost every kind of Indian music — Ghazals, Sufi, Bollywood, Punjabi, Haryanvi, old classics, Bhajans and instrumental music. For me, an IEM is not about having the maximum bass, maximum detail or maximum energy. It is about whether the overall presentation gives me the right feeling for the music.

The Performer 8S does this exceptionally well for me.

What I particularly enjoy is its precision, separation and ability to keep individual instruments distinguishable without making the music feel overly analytical. Vocals and instruments have their own space, and there is a sense of control that makes me want to listen carefully.

My favourite use is during late-night listening, when everything is quiet and I can concentrate completely on the music. With the right recording, the 8S can make me forget that I am listening to an IEM and simply focus on the song.

I pair it with my iBasso DX180, using Apple Music Hi-Res Lossless, and currently use the Tripowin C8 cable with the P8S. For my ears and my music, this combination gives me the presentation I was looking for — precise, controlled and immersive, without sacrificing the emotional side of the music.

One thing I appreciate is that the 8S doesn't try to make every song sound the same. Depending on the recording and the music, I can hear different aspects of it, while the overall character remains smooth and enjoyable.

It may not be the IEM I would pick when I simply want the biggest bass or the most energetic presentation. But when I want to sit down, switch off the lights and genuinely listen to the music, the Performer 8S is the one I reach for.

For me, that's what makes it special.
