Focal's legendary flagship headphone, the Utopia (2016), now has an improved design, new materials, reliability improvements, and subtle changes to an already phenomenal sonic experience. The design is modern, the new voice coil promises to be more reliable, and the recycled forged carbon yoke is light and sturdy. Most significantly, the sound quality is still excellent. The differences in acoustic design are the honeycomb grills on the ear cups. Focal has added an 'M'-shaped grille inside of the driver to help improve linearity in the high frequencies when you compare it to the Utopia (2016). The voice coil has also seen changes, the Utopia (2016) had an all-aluminium voice coil, and the new Utopia has a mixture of aluminium and copper, which tames down the highs a little. On the speaker driver's motor unit, there is a black and red double grille that adds to the aesthetics and acoustic performance of the driver. The new Utopia is fundamentally the same fantastic headphone as its predecessor and has been improved; in every way.

Utopia, a pair of French headphones that combine comfort and luxury, is constructed of genuine leather, aluminium, forged recycled carbon, honeycomb-style grilles, and rings that are Black Chrome in colour. Like the symbolic Yin & Yang depicted on the earcups, Utopia embodies beautiful design and high-performing sound in perfect harmony. More than just headphones, this is a sound icon. Sobriety and distinction go hand in hand; to create a Utopia. It features honeycomb grilles on the exterior and inside of the earcups, mimicking Focal's open-back (Clear Mg) and closed-back (Stellia and Celestee) headphones' looks. It offers subtle and sophisticated aesthetic touches, such as crimson glimpses of the speaker drivers' motor unit or the Yin & Yang effect visible on the exterior shell, symbolising design and technology in perfect harmony, in addition to its Black Chrome-colored rings, now screwed on from the inside. The forged, recycled carbon yoke is a beautiful design element that makes the headphones lighter and more uniformly distributed on the skull. Comfort and suppleness are provided by the perforated lambskin memory foam ear pads and genuine leather-bound headband.

The most obvious; change in the new Utopia is the grille pattern on the ear cups. The yoke on the new Utopia is carbon fibre, which helps with weight distribution on the head. But this time, engineers at Focal have used forged, recycled carbon, so each piece has a different pattern. This design adds visual aesthetics with an all-black finish. It has a flatter finish, which makes it far less likely to scratch and accumulate oil from your fingertips, making it simpler to keep looking good. Each grille now features a flame logo in the middle. On; the speaker driver's motor unit, there is a black and red double grille, and the visible red adds a splash of colour when looking into the centre of the ear cups. The subtle yin-yang pattern on the ear cups' outer casing is another new feature. According to Focal, this symbolises the harmony of technology and design. Lambskin leather covers the memory foam on the earpads and headbands, making Utopia; a pleasant; pair. Utopia is packaged in faux-leather and includes a black fabric thermoformed carrying bag, two high-fidelity cables (10ft and 5ft / 3m and 1.5m) with 3.5mm termination, as well as Lemo® connectors and a Jack adaptor for use while travelling or at home with an amplifier. The package also includes a 10ft. (3m) cable, ideal for use at home on a high-end amplifier, thanks to its balanced 4-pin XLR connector and two Lemo® connectors. It also includes 1 x Jack adapter, 1/8" (3.5mm) female – 1/4" (6.35mm) male.
