Open-Back Design

Headphones with an open-back design, allow air to pass through the earcups. This means that Open-Backs do not block any noise from around you, as closed-backs do, and music being heard will also leak outside to people around you. So they can only be heard in a quiet environment.

However, Open-back headphones do sound more natural and open. Open-back headphones create a feeling of space, presenting audio as if you are sitting at a live concert. Audiophiles swear by open-back headphones, and they sound quite different to closed-backs.

These headphones are perfect for critical listening sessions, mixing and mastering music. They have an accurate soundstage presentation and precise imaging.

Replaceable Cables

A pair of headphones with a replaceable cable has many benefits, and one of them is if the connecting cable has a problem, it doesn’t mean that you have to buy a new one. If the connecting cable gets pulled or damaged, you can replace it and keep using your good-old headphones or IEMs. This way, your headphones will be protected and will last longer. With the advancements in cable manufacturing, you now get a variety of replacement cables with various termination options, lengths and quality.

Needs Amplification

Headphones and IEMs require a certain level of power to sound their best and work at their full potential. When your headphones or IEMs are underpowered, they can sound thin or muffled.

Amplifiers are required to provide adequate power to your headphone or IEMs to perform at their best. Simply put, amplifiers allow a weak audio signal to be boosted to a powerful one.

To put it into perspective, devices such as your phones and laptops come with an amplifier, but they offer very limited output power. This output may not be sufficient to power headphones and IEMs to shine at their best. This is where a dedicated amplifier is required to deliver adequate power to hear your music in all its glory.

The Sennheiser HD 660S2 provides an effortless listening experience. If you have a preference for acoustic or vocal-focused music, these over-ear headphones are likely to satisfy your tastes. The quality of the midrange alone might be enough to make the purchase worthwhile, but what distinguishes them is the notable bass presence, making them a compelling option for an upgrade.

OPEN-BACK DESIGN OFFERS AN EXPANSIVE SOUNDSTAGE AND PRECISE IMAGING

High-end Sennheiser headphones have inspired generations since the HD 580 because of their balanced, natural reproduction. The HD 600, HD 650, and HD 660S all share audible and visual characteristics with the HD 660S2 and are industry standards for neutral audiophile sound. For instance, the HD 660S2 has an updated coil which now matches the renowned HD 600 and HD 650 300-ohm impedance. Moreover, this redesigned coil offers improved electrical damping and magnetic force for an impactful impulse response. The HD 660S2 has significantly better accuracy, responsiveness, and resolution and twice as much sound pressure at the lowest frequencies. Sennheiser has retained extraordinary precision and balance throughout the sub-bass, mid-bass, and beyond. Most impressive is how this affects the listening experience. Extension on the low end changes everything — by creating more space for the sound. Against a deeper backdrop, highs feel more brilliant, the soundstage deeper and open, and emotions stronger with precise imaging. Experience an oasis of sonic bliss with the all-new HD 660S2!

EASY CONNECTIVITY WITH HIGH-QUALITY CABLES THAT ENSURE LOSSLESS SIGNAL TRANSMISSION

Sennheiser is known for designing some of the most versatile cables that are robust and provide exceptional audio transmission. Sennheiser has included two sets of beautiful cables with the HD 660S2 to accommodate your audio configuration. It has no microphonics and achieves a stable connection. The package includes a 6.3mm (Single-Ended) cable and a 4.4mm (Balanced) cable with 1.8m in length, making them compatible with most audio sources. One benefit of using the HD 660S2 with a balanced connection is that it offers an even lower noise floor and excellent dynamic range. The result is a broader soundstage, precisely controlled transients, and impossibly distinct instrument separation.

Our Verdict

This headphone is a classic. The Sennheiser HD650 isn't a new headphone, but it's still a favourite amongst audiophiles. The sound signature can be best described as 'reference grade' because so many people over the years have used this as a benchmark for use in the studio and at home. Pair it with a decent tube amplifier to hear it sing.

660S2 is Excellent in its performance

It’s is Superb headphone. Bass is good however it’s not too much by not making fatigue. Sound staging is very clear to notice. In fact, I was able to hear all the instruments clearly. Even if I don’t concentrate on background instruments, the 660 s2 headphone will notice me about tiny instruments sounds. Overall good headphone for the one who is looking for decent bass, better sound imaging and vocal forward feature.

Great review! Thanks for taking the time to write it. We're glad to hear that our product has helped you improve your sound quality.

This is what the original 600 should have been

It’s an absolutely brilliant upgrade over 650/600/660S

Easier to drive while being just as brilliant while being less dependent on EQ to make it shine

Everything seems to have been improved across the board

Honestly, this is one of the biggest values in audio today

This is even bigger value than 600 at 20k because the 660S2 is more palpable for the masses at large and also improves on technicalities for hardcore audiophiles

Hey there,

Thank you for taking the time to write this review, we really appreciate the genuine feedback! Your review will definitely help fellow audiophiles to make an informed decision.
