The Mobile World Congress(MWC) which was held in Barcelona from 27th February wrapped up on 2nd March, 2017. With a lot of smartphones being released, the ones which focused on improving their sound quality and audio hardware grabbed our attention. The first one to make an announcement was LG's G6 which comes with Quad DAC and now the latest one to portray love towards good sound was Samsung.
Samsung acquired HARMAN a few months ago in November, 2016, and what better place than MWC to showcase the new opportunities that this collaboration presents. Samsung has embedded AKG's sound into their new Tablets, which is a HARMAN subsidiary, this would appear to be the first time that Samsung and HARMAN have come together in a single product.
Executive Vice President at Samsung Electronic, Younghee Lee said: “HARMAN and the AKG brand were the natural choice to elevate our audio quality and immediately communicate the distinct and premium offering that we wanted to bring to consumers with our new product introductions. For a totally immersive experience, we wanted the best performance in audio – and we achieved that through this exciting collaboration, giving Galaxy users the ability to fully enjoy enhanced listening experiences across Samsung’s mobile portfolio.”
As the first stage of this audio collaboration, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 will debut with quad stereo-sound speakers tuned by AKG. Samsung claims that the audio along with premium 4K video playback and a vivid Super AMOLED display will offer a cinema-like experience to the users. AKG will not only aid the development to their speakers but also tune the earphones included with the devices thereby bringing Grammy winning audio to the masses.
The tablet’s AKG tuned speakers will produce pure sounds, free from distortion and distraction, inspiring listeners with a truly immersive acoustic experience. The speakers will also automatically adjust depending on whether the device is in landscape or portrait mode to offer the highest-quality sound.
Samsung and AKG will also bring the same collaboration to Samsung Galaxy smartphones. This will be made possible by tuning the earphones that are included in the box by AKG.
AKG microphones and headphones have been used from the studio to the stage by the world’s most respected musicians, producers and DJs with a legacy of innovation. They are now dedicated to bringing that technology to everyone's ears
"AKG is the ultimate sound statement. This great brand served the greatest singers like Frank Sinatra, Michael Jackson, Lady Gaga, AR Rahman and hundreds more. It won the Grammys. It is now redefining Lufthansa business travel. I am sure Samsung-Harman partnership will bear many such successes! Good luck Galaxy Tab S3 and many more flagship products to come soon!" said Dinesh C. Paliwal Chairman & CEO at HARMAN International. As more and more portable mobile device brands are focusing on good quality audio and audio hardware, which familiar audio brand will pave its way to the next smartphone.
