This is my 2 purchase of FiiO x5 2nd gen having lost the first one. It's a wonderful player love the 2 MicroSD slots which holds all my music collection. The player supports NTFS, exFAT, FAT file systems that's just great, loaded this baby with 2 x SanDisk 200GB MicroSD cards, won't recommend Media Library update for around 400GB it can take around 2 hours to complete the operation and at the end may not be successful.
Drives IEMs effortlessly and sound quality is great when paired with Shures, Xiaomi Pistons, KZs, Rock Zircon.
Note: Bass isn't boosted, may not be a pick for bassheads.
I paired this with my iFi iDSD Micro Black Label and Sennheiser HD 650, Hifiman HE-400s the SQ is astounding.
Looking forward for FiiO x5 3rd gen DAP.
FiiO - X5 (2nd Gen)
There was a time when i'd be incomplete without my 160GB iPod Classic. But then started the advent of Hi-Res downloads and barrages of videos.
I got myself a BBZ10 in 2014 and found it fully capable of playing FLAC files. The player has a fairly good basic audio reproduction software and the phone supports 64GB Micro SDs.
Though smartphones ARE torchbearers of digital convergence, my primary use of a phone is, well, as a phone. So, I needed a dedicated DAP with Hi-Res capability.
After observing reviews and comments (on Fiio X series) for about an year, I decided to take the plunge with Fiio X5II.
Operation is quite similar to iPod Classics, so that was easy. There were absolutely no problems in detection of 2 128GB cards. One filled with FLAC & the other on standby.
Software update via micro SD was a breeze... and I was finally playing my hi-res tracks on a "proper" player!
Sound quality through the Sennheiser Momentum (Full size) is very balanced and transparent. Whatever is there in the recording is reproduced. Response is quite flat with no hint of any boom or unpleasant brightness. If you are looking for bass-heavy sound, try SONY IEs.
The soundstage is quite wide and instruments are distinct IF the original recording is up to scartch. Height could have been better though.
As a source (Line-Out Analog), the signature changes a bit. The bass becomes boomy in a nice warm way, sound stage expands & overall legibility remains spot on. However, imho, the vocals (mid-range) sound somewhat restrained! Basically, roll offs between treble -mid range - bass is somewhat lacking in the line-out mode. Let me concede though, I've been using my amp's Aux-In only. Probably I'll need to try the player via the analog RCA Ins.
File transfers are quick & painless.
Build is absolutely Rock-Solid. Controls are substantial & built to last. The screen is bright & legible.
The clickwheel is nice (i dont miss the iPod Classic).
FiiO X5II is a great little DAP. ...
I have been using ipod and my mobile as an audio player all my life. This is a significant upgrade in sound quality.. I didn't expect this to be this good, to be quite honest.. I'm loving it along with my akg k3003i headphones.. I would recommend it to anyone buying an hi res player for the first time..
Very Good Sound Quality, Good Design.
