What's in the box:
I tested the device using the following devices
1. Dell Inspiron 7000 Series (Coupled with Dell's Waves Maxx Audio Pro)
Headphones/Speakers used :
1. V-Moda Crossfade LP2
2. Sony MDR-100 ABN (in wired mode)
3. F&D F-203G Desktop Speakers.
I will directly jump to my sound tests. The first thing I noticed after attaching the device to my laptop and listening on my speakers was the sound output (Tested on 4 USB 3.0 ports. No difference). They were too damn low. Normally my speakers would be at 50% and laptop sound setting would be around 75% for it to be loud enough across the flat. But after attaching this the sound output reduced to such an extent that I had to crank up both my laptop and speakers to 100% for it to be audible in slight more than 50 percent of my flat area. Not expected of an "amplifier". Even the Waves Maxx Audio Pro's software enhancements were not enough This would probabl work more as a mobile sound amplifier. Not sure how they assumed it would be enough to power a laptop's sound system.
In my second test, I assumed the power of the AMP/DAC would be seen in high end headphones. I had the same results here. Both my headphones are meant for different song genres but the sound difference is noticeable. While there is no doubt there were subtle improvements in the sound quality, the issue of the sound output still remained the same.
I had hoped this would be the beginning of a good investment. One that I had hoped continue over the coming years trying to get value for money AMPs and DACs but this was a total bummer. Good news is at least I know which direction to not go in.
The reason I am not giving a 2 star rating rather than a 1 star is because of the sound quality. I have been as detailed as I can be. Hope this helps.
Clean Sound, extremely small and easily portable.
Definitely does what is says and the size is a huge advantage.
If you are looking for a good, decent & highly portable AMP/DAC, this is the one.
